Does anyone have a link to the full set of rules governing the number of FA's we'd be able to sign? I can't seem to find anything more than just general statements that don't tell me whether or not re-signing Aramis today vs yesterday would actually count against our max.

I'm tentatively very happy. But we're just back to where we were...I want additions now please.

Well in fact we are higher than we were before.

Derreck Lee isn't injured, we do not have Pierre in CF. We are not paying Wood $13 million. Miller is probably close to fully rehabed and is only getting $0.5 million more and could be our #5 next year (in APRIL). Prior "could" come back. We have a hitting coach that preaches more patient hitting practices. We have a manager that will not stand for loosing and demand the team win close games. (IE: not laying over for the pirates and reds). We have a president and team that knows fans are angry and they are obviously going to push hard for some top talent and the goal is to win next year. And according to sources payroll was upped to $115 mil. So I would hardly say we are were we were last year. We are MUCH better. And it's going to get MUCH better.

The Cubs.com article that talks about Ramirez & Wood signing also said that Hendry will be talking with the agents for Pierre & Blanco over the next week.

Getting a bad team more cheaply doesn't inherently make us better. There's plenty of Neifi Perez's and Glendon Rusch's out there for us to spend money on. D-Lee not being injured helps...agreed, but nothing says that he won't get hurt again. Pierre being gone doesn't mean that spot is going to be better either. We've done a good job so far of getting rid of the bad, and keeping the good. Now it's time to add. Until I see those positive additions, I'm going to remain skeptical. I've been burned enough.

Ugh. We can do better than both of them.

Hopefully it's just to identify Pierre's asking price to decide whether or not to offer arby. I've heard a few times they want Hank back.

actually... i like Blanco (Hank White).... i wouldnt mind seeing him come back.. but... i kinda dont wanna see Pierre come back.. plus look at the price your going to have to pay for JP.

Regular

*Though the conclusion that the quota would be three appears to be wrong. It looks like it's four this year, and if ARAM signed after the exclusive window closed he counts against that total. So it looks to me like the Cubs can sign THREE more A/B free agents.

Also, signings throught the posting system apparently don't count.

so durham and dave roberts are both type A? i'm hoping our other type A signing is a bigger impact player than those two.

I'm wondering if this stuff transfers over to the new CBA, though.

The CBA doesn't distinguish between Type As and Type Bs for purposes of the quota. The Cubs can sign either three or four Type As (depending on whether ARAMs deal was agreed to before the deadline).

I'm waiting for those positive actions as well. But we are clearly in a better position now than we were in mid last season with those coaches, woods money and Lee out. While getting a "bad" team (as you call them) more cheaply doesn't make us better per se. It does give us even more money to spend to make the team better.

Agreed...I'm just skeptical of Hendry actually spending that money wisely. I'm ready to be proven wrong.

I'd just go with Soto and save the couple of million.

Me too unless the Cubs can afford Blanco and all the other toys I want them to have.

I can easily see the Cubs allowing Hank to walk while promoting Soto; especially since he works well with Rich Hill. That being said, I think Blanco is the best defensive catcher on the team.

I'll be pretty surprised if Hendry lets Blanco walk. I don't see Jim giving up the tendancy to give multi-year deals to terrible players who could easily be replaced by guys who make major league minimum.

Although, I do find it quite amusing that Blanco is coming off a career year.

Well it's just, to me. Piniella agreeing to come in, the raised payroll, and Mcdunough's statements all point in the right direction. The recent news with Aram. Everything is looking good so far.

Oh come on. How can you forget his 2000 season?
