I'm just amazed by the bad rap the Chicago Media has on Ram. I was listening to AM 1000 last night and they were ripping him. Today the Daily Herald is ripping ram saying the Cubs needed to change the culture of the clubhouse like the W.Sox did in 2005 with ridding themselves of Lee and Ordonez? Huh? Is Ram a bad clubhouse guy? I'm just shocked how stupid the media in chicago - across the board - actually is?

don't you get to sign an extra type A if you lose one?

No. If the total number of A/Bs you lose is greater than the A/B quota (4 this year), you get to replace the number you lost. The Cubs can only lose one at this point (Pierre). So their quota is four As or Bs.

Ramirez couints against the quota if he was signed after the deadline. It appears this is the case, but I haven't read anything definitive.

Let me guess. Barry Rozner wrote the Herald article?

No. It was Mike Imrem.

Oh. Whatever. Aramis is a bad clubhouse guy in the sense that he's not Mark Grace with the media. I doubt his teamates have any issues with him.

If the culture at Wrigley Field is to change, a good start would have been to allow Ramirez to take his 30something home runs and 100something runs batted in to another team.

Someone explain that logic to me please.

Yeah, Scott Moore and his 15 something HR's and 60 something RBI's and his 24/7 media availability would be much better. This would be a good place for

That's what got me. What culture? I don't understand what RAM did to deserve this media bashing. Let's see he worked out in the offseason to be in better shape - stayed healthy last year - improved his defense - Yet, Yet, he's lazy? Ummm...Okay?

yea, but if ARam counts as a pick up he has to count as a loss. therefore, it doesn't matter when he signed.

Per Jon Heyman from CNNSI

Aramis Ramirez actually received $75 million over five years, not $73 million, but agent Adam Katz thinks he could have gotten a little more had he shopped him around. However, Ramirez wanted to stay in Chicago. Anyway, it's not too bad; he set a record for increasing his contract after opting out. He increased $53 million from the $22 million he had been guaranteed.

Mike Imrem of the Daily Herald is a moron. I've never liked anything he's written. He wrote something a few years back that was so assinine, I can't think of it but I'm trying. Anyways, I try to stay away from his articles like I do Phil Rogers.

The problem with all this Ramirez bashing is nobody offers an alternative that will actually make the team better. These people just seem to think the team will improve if Aramis was no longer around. I'm guessing he doesn't really think that, but he realizes making outlandish statements is how columnists get recognized.

That's a real problem, though. Sports journalism mostly sounds like white noise now. Radio is nearly unlistenable now, and writers just keep writing the same story over and over, without doing any research to back up their CW talking points.

Per the Score, the Cubs are having a press conference tomorrow (Tuesday) afternoon at 3:30 CT for the re-signing of Aramis.

Shouldn't that have been a while ago?

maybe they wanted aramis to be here and this was the earliest he could get here, or maybe there was a slight snag in the paperwork.

We re-signed Aramis? Woo hoo!

Seems a little odd to take a week. There's probably not a whole lot that hasn't already been talked about.

They could also just be covering for a Soriano press conference, since that signing hasn't been made official yet. Or they could be doing a joint press conference with both guys.

Isn't it a little odd to fly him in for a press conference when we just re-upped him?

Haha, I didn't realize this has been bumped. I just saw "SIGNS WITH CUBS" and I was thinking we landed another big FA

It would have to be Jesus to get to 110 pages so quickly because, as we all know, Jesus can't hit a curveball.

Odd. I wonder why they would do that.
