Since when has mlbtraderumers.com every been reliable or accurate?

Since when has Phil Rogers or Paul Sullivan been reliable or accurate?

I don't know what to believe about the negotiations and I'm not sure we'll ever find out the truth.

I am absolutely amazed at how many people are surprised by Aramis Ramirez not signing. Even if the Cubs had offered you the moon, wouldn't you want to find out if there was another team willing to offer the moon, a couple dozen stars and an option on a comet?

Rare is the free agent who jumps at the first offer.

That's why your GM needs to be able to sell the heck out of your team and force him to want to stay.

You would need a gun (or some other credible threat of force) or a contract stupidly large to force me to want to stay without checking the FA market if I was in his position.

There are simply no adequate words

EXACTLY!!!

You could always prevent it from getting to this point by being proactive. This situation was 2 years in the making. I will not accept that there was nothing poor Hendry could have done in the past 24 months to prevent this day from happening.

If this report is true then let Aramis walk. Spread out the money and get a few guys out of Wolf, Nomar, Soriano, Roberts, Schmidt, make some trades with your young pitching and get a 2B or SS. You don't neccesarily need huge power guys in your order, just guys who can hit at all the spots in the order.

By the way. I was upset at Hendry for not trading A-ram (maybe could of had E. Santana) and Pierre for something at the deadline, and now look what we get for them. Drraft picks.

QFT

A power bat to replace ARam is needed but I would rather have two average power guys and a pitcher minus some prospects/suspects than one POWER guy.

My view, would you rather have 50 HR and a 350ish OBP out of two spots in the batting order or one 30HR hitter?

That hopefully player development wont screw up.

I don't know if mlbtraderumors.com is true or not either, but if it is, Kinzer's lack of honesty in his dealings with the Cubs is what is most troubling. Don't ask for 6 years and $90 mil. and when the Hendry agrees, ask for more. Don't tell the fans that Aramis is willing to give the Cubs a hometown discount, when it is blatantly false. Don't tell the Cubs fans that Chicago is your first choice when your first choice is really the team that gives you the most money.

I agree that Aramis isn't gone yet. If Hendry wants him, he's going to have to fork over the big money. He can probably afford one guy at $17 per year and Hendry has to decide if Ramirez is the guy he wants for that kind of money. My sense is that Hendry can sign Ramirez any time he wants over the next two weeks for $119 million over 7 years. The only reason there was pressure on was to see if he could get something better than that while he had exclusive rights. It was never going to happen though.

Some of you don't like Soriano. I do and so we're just going to have to agree to disagree. I also think signing top flight pitching is more important that bringing back Ramirez. Any one of a number of free agents or trade prospects can come close to replacing Ramirez' production, but the supply of ace pitchers is decidedly slim. Supply and demand would dictate if you are going to overpay for someone, it should be Schmidt or Zito. Hopefully Hendry will now make a pre-emptive strike for some top pitching and work to fill the holes in the line-up after the pitching is set.

I don't dislike Soriano. I would be thrilled if the Cubs had Aramis and Soriano. I just don't think Soriano is a good bet to live up to a giant contract.

I totally, absolutley, adamantly do not believe that Aramis is worth the kind of money we're talking about if these reports are true. Hendry has failed by leaving it this late when he should of blown this club up at the trade deadline however i do not see how you pay Ramirez A-rod money. He was my 2nd fave cub and my jersey is hanging at half mast but the guy isn't the 2nd coming of Jesus. The cubs have no excuses now it's time to put up or lie down and be the loosers that many of us think they are.

1- Re-sign Z to stop another winter of discontent in '08

2- Sign 2 of Drew,Soriano and C Lee.

3- Sign a top pitcher or trade for one and then look for a middle of the rotation guy such as Lilly,Wolf, Meche

4- Trade 'Izzy' for a bag of balls and replace him with Lugo

5- Sign Huff or Nomar to play 3rd

6- Round of the bench with quality guys such as Craig Wilson (No Frddie B's)

I couldn't agree more, I think we could get Roberts, Nomar, Burrell(get rid of Burrell if you think Murt is the real deal, I'm still not sold on him), and trade Jacque, Dempster, and Mateo for Kearns and Vidro(would have to come if we get Kearns to balance out money), and still be able to pick up a pitcher or two

CF-Roberts

2B-Vidro

3B-Nomar

1B-Lee

LF-Burrell

RF-Kearns

C-Barrett

SS-Izturis

Zambrano

Wolf

Hill

Igawa/Meche

Prior/Miller

Then when Vidros contract is up Michael Young will be sitting there in FA

If he wants to leave now, why wouldn't he have waved it then? Was he hoping for the playoffs still?

YES! From fox sports:

Rather than test free agency, third baseman Aramis Ramirez has decided to remain with the Chicago Cubs.

Ramirez, 28, has agreed to a five-year contract with a vesting option, FOXSports.com has learned. While exact terms of the deal were not immediately available, it was believed to be for at least $70 million.

Just in time, too.
