Does anyone habe any inkling on who the minor leaguer might be? Or if there is one at all?

The reports I've seen haven't mentioned any minor leaguers at all.

I have not heard about any minor leaguers as well.

Its just Izturis for Maddux so far.

With each update seeming worse I am afraid we will be giving them minor leaguers before long.

Just to play devil's advocate, Izturis was an All-Star in 2005, and was leading MLB in hits in June 2005 before he got hurt and his production declined.

Loduca was an all-star this year, and he's the 15th best offensive catcher in baseball this year and below average defensively.

I don't care if Izturis was an all-star.

And it's possible to lead the league in hits and be a poor player. Juan Pierre is top 5 in hits this season, but he's #20 in VORP for center fielders.

The official press release is up on the front page. Here's the body:

The Chicago Cubs today acquired Gold Glove infielder Cesar Izturis from the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for right-handed pitcher Greg Maddux.

Izturis, 26, owns a .979 career fielding percentage (2632 TC/54 E) in 630 games, including a .989 mark (185 TC/2 E) at second base and a .980 mark (2357 TC/48 E) in 559 games at shortstop. He won the Rawlings Gold Glove award in 2004, logging a .985 fielding percentage (674 TC/10 E) as the Dodgers everyday shortstop.

Izturis was named to the 2005 National League All-Star team thanks in part to his club-record 75 hits over the first two months of the season. His year was cut short with degenerative arthritis in his right elbow, which required season-ending Tommy John surgery on September 16.

This season, the switch-hitter has batted .252 (30-for-119) with seven doubles and 12 RBI in 32 games after returning from the 60-day disabled list on June 20. He has seen action at second base, third base and shortstop this season.

Maddux, 40, is 9-11 with a 4.69 ERA (71 ER/136.1 IP) in 22 starts this season. He ranks in the top-10 in numerous Cubs franchise records, including fourth with 1,305 strikeouts and fifth with 298 starts, while his 133 victories ranks 13th.

Maddux signed with Chicago as a free agent prior to the 2004 season, rejoining the club he had left after the 1992 season. He’s compiled a 38-37 record with a 4.26 ERA (272 ER/574.0 IP) in 90 starts since his return. For his career, Maddux is 327-200 with a 3.06 ERA in 665 career games (661 starts) over 21 Major League seasons. His 327 career wins rank 12th in Major League history.

Gee, I wonder what aspect of his game they're going to try and sell to the fanbase. Could it be his...defense?

I can't wait to watch him field groundballs at SS for the Cubs, as we lose games 4-1.

what this trade does.

A) takes money away that we can spend next year

B) takes time from cedeno, our MIF = Izturis SS and Neifi 2B

I am going to go nuts listening to people sugar coat this piece of trash with that all star monikor. Do you realize how many truly awful players have made the all star team over the years? A lot. Including Izturies. Just because enough people were stupid enough to include him in the group doesn't mean he was worthy. He's awful, and he's pretty darn expensive.

Rusch

Izturiz

Perez

That's several million dollars dediced to some truly awful baseball players who could easily be replaced with a AAA reject. Think about that the next time the Cubs come up short a few million when trying to get a true impact bat. This is what Hendry does repeatedly, he wastes money, over and over, on crap players, so that when the time comes to get a good one, there is no money left.

So is there actually a chance this will turn out well for the Cubs?

I take it back. I'd much rather have Maddux here to teach the young kids how to pitch, and Rich Hill isn't going to gain much by throwing another 10 starts either. Please Greg, forgive me and invoke a no trade clause or something.

agreed. if you come back, i will make a beautiful scrapbook detailing the rest of your starts in a cub uniform...complete with ticket stubs, newspaper clippings, the works...i miss you, greg!

I fully blame you two for this deal.

Hendry obviously thinks this year was a fluke, and if he keeps moving more in the same direciton that we'll be better.

HAHAHAHA. He just called Izturis an "outstanding middle infielder." HAHAHAHA.

That's like calling Ben Affleck an outstanding actor because he has an Academy Award.

There HAS to be more. Even Hendry can't be stupid enough to give up Maddux AND a bunch of cash for nothing more. If that's all there is to the trade, MacPhail MUST fire Hendry TODAY.

What does everyone here think the Cubs could of got in return for Maddux from the Dodgers? To think they could of got a top prospect is just insane.

Getting nothing back would literally have been better.
