Exactly, they're not some supreme infallible baseball machine, their MO is not sustainable against quality competition.  The one thing I will harp on Nico for is not trying to go the other way, he does that and a run scores.

But can’t he get a hit through SS and 3rd base? Why does he have to go the other way. The infield is in. Couldn’t that ball have gone directly to the 1st or second baseman? Would that have made it a good AB? Sorry, I don’t agree. He hit the ball hard. Right to the 3rd baseman.

Honestly, at this point, I really don't care.  Bull pen can't hold a lead of less than 4 runs, it's pretty hopeless.

I want them to make the playoffs just so pca's mvp season isn't always associated with something bad

Is every member of the bullpen allergic to clean innings/games?

I'm confident Cubs will make the playoffs. I'm also confident this board will have as many playoff wins as the Cubs.

People in the future are going to look at this team and wonder how the hell they had a 10+ fWAR PCA and barely snuck into the playoffs.

Everyone horsefeathers one of them are terrible, even the worst of teams have one effective guy.  If they or someone could manage one effective week the playoffs are done deal.

I feel this right now too…….😑 I don’t say “wasted season”, but I understand this guy’s frustration. IMG_9219.thumb.jpeg.6bf397ba7c95ec2af7390ba2deaf85da.jpeg

I know the bullpen is for horsefeathers but, I put this one on Craig.  After the lead off walk he should have pulled Boyd.  Zeferjahn may have not executed however, him facing, Ortiz, a crappy replacement level player is the right match up.  Most especially after Ortiz out together a good at bat vs. Boyd earlier.

Ortiz would have been pinch hit for a LH bat and Zeferjahn isn't good against lefties. It's a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation.

Still would have taken my chances, even against the fearsome Jake Bauers.

Ortiz is a reverse splits guy and has an 84 wRC+ against lefties. It wasn't a bad decision. Boyd just didn’t execute.

In the end it's all a wash, had they managed to hold them to one run, the bullpen would have inevitably blown it.

I put this one on the RISP failures.  What do you want CC to do?  All the relievers suck and he knows it.  Boyd is gassing out, and he either rolls the dice with him or rolls the dice with the nightmare bullpen.  What’s the difference?  The horses just aren’t there.

But you have runners on base, the big hits have to happen.  Just have to, or we will lose.

Yeah at the time I was pissed he didn't make the change but then understood why after the fact. A 1 run lead just isn't going to hold up with whatever options we do have.

Know what else is starting to bum me out?  Sounds crazy I know.  But the PCA solo shots, because I know we need more runs than that.  How do we get base runners on ahead of him?  Hitting leadoff works against that, but Pete is the best leadoff hitter I’ve ever seen.

Bat Bregman 8th and Suzuki 9th. He’ll get those run driving opportunities while staying at leadoff.

Option #2, leadoff Busch again? The platoon splits aren’t a problem for either this season.

Not dipshit Shaw approach today are base runners getting on ahead of PCA. That MF'er and his I'm going to swing at anything and everything really pissed me off, it's the same horsefeathers horsefeathers he did in the playoffs.

As much as i’ve horsefeathers on Swanson in the past when he’s in his funks… Miss the hell out of that guy.  Lengthens the lineup and his defense is insane.  Need him back asap

Anything can happen in October and blah blah blah. A team with a near replacement level pitching staff and a bullpen without a single go to relief pitcher has never won a World Series. Such a waste of an MVP season and what could end up as the best positional group in Cubs history.
