And after watching the play again I still think it was dumb . Straw was charging in and was in position to put everything on the throw and was shallow when he received the ball

Including last September we're up to 22 very good innings from Civale in relief.

He's simply good good as a reliever, no major caveats required.

The send by Berry wasn't wise, have to consider who is running.  Throw down to third by the Blue Jays was not wise either, they had no shot at getting PCA.

Yep, you only need 1 run.  And if Carson is thrown out, you're reloaded with speed taking his place at 2nd.  I was good with it too.

Still wondering why PCA wanted the HBP.  I guess even though he's pretty elite against LHP too, maybe the thought is it puts the bat in Seiya's hands?  Otherwise, if PCA gets out, they walk Seiya and have Busch against a lefty with Kelly the lead runner?  I don't think thats a good argument to want to take the bat out of PCA's hands though.  He's literally your best player and hitter.

Yep. It's easy to say "with Seiya, Busch and Bregman coming up you'll get more chances" but it doesn't always work out like that. Take the chance when you get it. It was probably a coin-flip. Heads you win, tails, nothing really lost considering Pete's on second, a hit still wins it.

Caleb Williams and PCA taking over Chicago with their play is something I've never expected for Chicago sports but loving every minute of it.

I think it was a brainfart by everyone. Counsell shouldn't have challenged that either. Luckily it worked out.

If I am Pete and I think I just hit the game winning hit -- I AM WATCHING intently.  But he made the key play and gets to second on the throw though -- just in case.  That was brilliant and sets him up to steal third and THEN win the game.  The guy is in a FREAKIN zone.

Normally I am not someone who ever complains about a send when a guy is thrown out. But in this case, IMO it was a bad send. Even if it was a 50/50 outcome, if you play that out holding the runner, most likely PCA steals second and they walk Seiya. Do the Cubs have a 50/50 chance of scoring one run with Busch and then Bregman batting with the bases loaded. I would think they do. To me you send Kelly if he was a 80% or more chance of scoring. Because I think that’s about the same odds of scoring with the bases loaded and no out.

It's been a year or two so Im fuzzy on the details but there was a Sam Miller that laid out that teams are still way too conservative on sends.

Especially in a walkoff situation the breakeven point is pretty low.  Good send that simply didn't work out IMO.
