I understand you saying this, 100%. I would expect this from you. You are the fanbase who doesn’t like swagger. But baseball isn’t geared to your way of viewing the game. It is for people younger who like that stuff. I am not suggesting you are wrong in your opinion. It is your opinion, and I respect it. But I don’t think most younger people care if a guy pimps a bit or shows swagger. A hard core team of a rival team wouldn’t like PCA, I get that. But today there are a lot more fans of the game, not necessarily one team. Those people should love PCA.

PCA has achieved the 25th 35-35 season in MLB history.

He has achieved the 9th season with at least 41 HR and 35 SB.

Ohtani is gonna come out next year and go 60-60. His drive to prove greatness is understated. Before 2024 his high in steals was 26. 30 was a surprise and he damn near ended with 60. Went absolutely nuts in that last month.

But, he didn't pitch that 50-50 year.  If he pitches and does 60-60 next year, I'd admit he's the GOAT.

If Pete can do 40-40 this year, he could do it again next year (hopefully).  Has anybody done 40-40 back to back?

Unless he totally gives up on pitching, I seriously doubt he ever goes that crazy again

Since PCA has double the amount of WAR than Dillon Dingler in 14th place on the fangraphs leadboard, can MLB change the rules for this year to put PCA in the NL and AL MVP races? I feel like that would be the right thing to do.

I know you're joking, but with the way the schedule is now, two MVPs actually is kind of dumb.

Just be clear, I'm not saying i don't like PCA. I like him a lot, I just said I understand why some people from other teams don't.

And yes, of fans from other teams, the younger fans I'm sure like him more than the older and more old school fans. Younger fans like excitement, just like i did when i was as a teenaged fan and younger.

Ohtani could have done it but for some reason really cranked down the SB's last year. He went from 54 HR/59 SB in 2024 (731 PA's) to 55 HR/20 SB in 2025 (727 PA's).

PCA is, per fWAR, the 49th best offensive Cubs player in history. He's leapfrogged Dansby and Seiya this year, passed by Contreras and Dawson, and with a consistent pace to finish the year, will move past Soriano and Jody Davis. Next year he's realistically looking at getting past Javy, DLee, potentially Happ. 

At his current pace he'll finish with 11 fWAR, which would be something like the 25th best offensive season of all time and put him in a tie with Hornsby for the best Cubs season of all time. Going off FG projections would get him to 10.6, which is roughly 35th best all time.

Ohtani could absolutely hit 60+ home runs, but at 32 years old and with ongoing knee issues, his days of being a high volume stolen base threat are in the past.

People hate him because they know they would love it if he was on their team.  The most old school baseball fan would love him and consider him a throwback if they played for their teams.  It's pure jealousy.

He's sustained a 193 wRC+ for 450 PA. Pretty sure if he closes the year mashing similarly he will hit or pass 11, no?

There is a subset of people (including in this thread actually) that think Ohtani can just flip a switch and be the best player in history, throw 50 innings of no hit ball, hit 30 HR and steal 30 bases like it's nothing.

These people have not seen Ohtani play at all since the all star break.

Ohtani doesn't deserve the MVP this year just because he lapped the field last year. There's no roll over.

My hot take is that at this point, NL MVP is the easiest unanimous choice of any of the 6 major awards.

One more look at Pete's fWAR:

He's currently up to 9.9 fWAR, which is the 14th highest fWAR in a season since the turn of the century, and just behind 2001 Sosa for best Cub season since the turn of the century.

The only players above him are prime Barry Bonds, prime Mike Trout, prime Aaron Judge, and one season each from Bobby Witt Jr, Mookie Betts, and A-Rod.

It's also higher than any single combined batting and pitching season from Ohtani ever.

re: hitting - i am SHOCKED that jose macias or neifi perez didn't make the list. looked up neifi on BR and out of all the teams he played for, he accumulated the most bwar with the cubs (4.0)! 

re: pitching - i've been alive for 7 of them and remember 6 of those 7.
