What's going to happen with Peterson? Once Cabrera is back, he clearly doesn't have a spot in the rotation. Rea is playing the long man role. Assad can at least go to AAA.

very happy with the guys the cubs ended up with, BUT a) the detmers rug pull makes it feel worse b) giving up a top 100 guy for a rental seems ridiculous. can live with losing ballesteros.

I don't know, but if Peterson keeps pitching like he's been, Cabrera might join the pen?  Right now, he's pitching better than Gausman.

Yea im very interested in seeing how they figure out the bullpen after guys return, especially for the playoffs.  Be funny to see a bunch of SP in the pen, but that can be a good thing for the playoffs having guys that can get them 3+ innings or once through the order.

Why im thinking maybe Cabrera goes to the pen to limit his pitches or they wait til September 1st to add him and they can get that extra arm added to the roster.

He got Gausman for a bunch of nobody's.  The prices are high and Jed went down to the wire to wait to see if they got cheaper. This is just what it cost sometimes at the TDL. 

They probably really like Holmes in a Cub uni, as they should.   He might have been their #1 SP choice after Skubal in terms of production in 2026.  They're in it to win this year, they have all the position guys in place.

They gave up Torres for 2 months of Chapman in 16.  Most might not realize it but this is our 2016.  Bregman was signed to win now.  He and Dansby are our most expensive players and aren't getting younger.   PCA is having an MVP year like Bryant.  All our position guys are healthy and in their primes.   Happ and Seiya are likely gone this winter. Time to go for it.

Personally, there's no way I'm taking Peterson out of the rotation for Cabrera.  Cabrera might actually be a dude out of the bullpen with that velocity.  That could be his role for the rest of this season while they figure out what's going on with him.

Either there was something close enough to leak out and one of the teams backed out last second, or the notoriously guarded and close lipped Cubs FO were doing a mole hunt to see who was leaking info.

Besides Skubal, who would that have been though?

Skubal would cost Rojas, Hartshorn, and another good prospect at least
