It’s like a runner gets in scoring position and everything changes. The vibe changes, players get tight, bad decisions are made.  It’s in their heads at this point.

we get down in the standings and the guys get panicky and tense and then can't get it up.  We need to remember how many games there are in a season and how talented we are and play loose like were practicing.

we're very capable, but it may be a factor of a big market team with upper tier'ish spending, but not upper enough to set us apart without any doubt about it.  We get the expectations we have to meet - other teams don't have those and they pop off like the brewers.

Miggy on base and we're about to right the ship

There was this moment, I think 10 years ago give or take a few months…

Yes, long ago I experienced Cubs joy.

bregman’s best case scenario with RISP is now striking out without wasting a challenge. next time he’s up in that spot and he merely k’s, I’ll take it.

I don't remember who, but somebody mentioned the Cubs offense started sucking more, after Nicky Lopez left the team.  He's supposed to be a very funny guy, and that helped the team.  I don't know if it's true, but the timing matches.

If the Cubs only had 2 or 3 problems right now, they could be ok. Problem is very little is working outside of PCA and Busch being above average. Cabrera has been a large disappointment and Bregman, FFS. His overall performance is not quite Candy Maldonado but should we even think to evoke that name for someone who gets $35M per year?

And now Cabrera is injured.

Nick Frangella has spent more time on the field than half the damn roster this season.

Cabrera reminds me of a bit of former Chicago Bear Chase Claypool.  Guy looks like a monster and has all the talent in the world, but once he steps onto the field he's a bit of a fairy.

This feels like the end of the season right here. Wildcard is in play, but the injuries are just mounting up and has done so for a long time. We are down to Shota, Rea, Brown and Assad as starters. We are screwed.

TBH, after watching every ST game, I didn't have that much expectation on Cabrera.  I thought I'd be happy, if he's our #3 (of course, with Horton and Boyd healthy).  I thought Shota was going to be better.

So, 4/5 of the opening day starting rotation on the IL, plus the other guy who was supposed to have already been back but is nowhere close to returning, plus the top AAA pitching prospect, plus the closer.

Cool.
