Late game thread today, I was busy doing things that included not thinking about baseball for 30 minutes in a row. But hey, Cabrera is on the mound tonight!

Man it would be awesome if Pete found his power again. Over the last 2 weeks his OBP is 390. His approach is improving. He just needs to start barreling balls again.

Yeah he's had some good ABs lately for sure, a great sign.   I'm sure the power will come.

Cowles is both loved and hated by this FO. They brought him back but never want to give him a shot.

Nikhazy was an interesting lefty in Cleveland's organization pretty recently. Another depth arm with all the injuries we've had.

Justin Steele and Cade Horton should be considered fun bonuses if they contribute any substantial value to the Cubs at any point in the future. It sucks, but that has to be the mindset/approach by the front office.

Yeah TJ#1 is more or less routine but TJ#2 is still assume the worst until the guy has re-proven himself.

He won't be back before the All Star break would be my guess. Flexor strain is the same injury Riley Martin is on the shelf for 8 weeks with

Hoyer gonna have to consider trading for a SP sooner rather than later, even if it someone minor that can eat up innings for now until they can make a bigger trade later.

Rea Assad Boyd and Taillon are ok but theyre not guys they can count on every 5th day to give them 6 innings consistently, these guys are gonna wear out the bullpen more times then not.

They were ok to start the season with them and having Horton, Steele returning in late May,  and a healthy Wiggins in the wing, but their injuries has put them in a whole new situation and if the goal is to win the division and compete in the playoffs this year, Hoyer gonna need to do some work to fix the rotation.

Huh, Mo to 2 and Busch dropped down to 5. Who would have ever thought that should happen? I think Bregman’s foot might be bothering him.

Kind of wish they got Giolito. I doubt they make any kind of substantial deal until July. Steele news isn’t great, but we don’t yet know how bad it is. And they are working without him anyway. They may find an innings eating guy, but not sure how much that person would help. Didn’t they just let Valesquez go? He seems to be someone that would fit eating a few innings.

Giolito would of been perfect,  they should of signed him when Horton went down.

Only FA now that might be worth a try would be Tyler Anderson

Honestly, I’m not sure he is any better than Rea. But if they did sign him, Rea could have gone to the pen. Which helps the pen.

Yeah good call on the foot.  We're not sure why he moved Mo up and Busch down, could be a matchup CC doesn't like for Busch tonight, so lineup could revert to old when Bregman is back, or not, impossible to say now.

I certainly dont think Mo is intimidated by the MLB, he even looked really confident catching last night.  Guy has major swag.  So doesn't seem like a guy who would be bothered as a rookie by the pressure of hitting 2nd.

Hindsight is 20/20 of course. But post-Steele setback and more pen injuries i think Hoyer would probably have upped his offer for Giolito even if he's not that good.  The deal he signed for was quite small.

If we're in the market for a SP again this trade deadline that would be maddening.  But if the offense is still looking good by then they may have to bite the bullet and try to acquire someone better than a Soroka type.

What are other people’s take(s) on PCA at the plate? I’m honestly interested. He’s so difficult to watch

He's a left-handed Javy Baez. So eager to swing that pitchers can throw junk out of the zone and get him fishing. If you make a mistake he's going to crush it, but his plate discipline is like me playing MLB: The Show
