Maybe you shouldn't be in a hurry to bitch all the time and just move on.

Not huge in the grand scheme of things but the timing here is a bit funny.  The arbitration deadline is I believe Friday afternoon.  "Welcome to the org Edward, the first meeting on your calendar is a contract negotiation!"

I would hope either the Bregman/Bichette stuff is reaching endgame or the Marlins just finalized his salary right before this?

If they manage to get Bichette this offseason is an absolute A+.

Haha I mean....I'd be a lot happier than I was a week ago. But...still have to land the plane. And also, to go back to pessimistic me, comparing 2025 Cubs to 2026 would basically be, ignoring the flotsam and calling the bullpen a net neutral, Tucker and his 4.5 fWAR out, Cabrera and Bichette in. Slight improvement, maybe?

So, I'd rather Bregman/Bichette because of the huge upgrade it gives the bench with Shaw, but suddenly Bellinger makes a good bit of sense. Plays RF, can fill in for PCA here and there.

Rotation would be  upgraded, The offense perhaps slightly down graded. the bullpen I'm quite happy with so I'd call it neutral, but the bench would be significantly upgraded.

Given Cabrera's elbow is about to explode I'm not that keen on this deal.  Final judgment when the prospects we're sending are announced.

2nd offseason in a row we're sending good prospects away for players because Tom is too cheap to pay for them in FA.  What a joke

It's been said that Caissie is the lead piece.  I also read that Wiggins and Alcantara are also in the deal.  But that makes no sense at all, so I very much doubt anything but Caissie for sure.

Caissie has been highly speculated but nothing is confirmed. When Jessie Rogers was on the radio earlier he said he heard from his source that Caissie has not yet been informed of a deal. Which could also mean nothing, we'll just have to wait and see. Medicals could impact secondary and tertiary pieces not necessarily the main piece.

I think net you're probably ahead if for no other reason that you're getting Steele as an addition to the rotation at some point and he's likely to be better than the back end of the rotation was in 2025.

i think sending mid-tier prospects with warts out for cost-controlled starters is actually a good use of resources if you're just completely opposed to 10+ year mega deals.

The odds that Cabrera bombs or misses a year or two with elbow injuries is not exactly non-existent, so I get that it could bust like that and even that it might be likely. But it's also very likely that someone like Caissie is just a bad-fileding 1-2 war guy for the time that he's cheap, and you can get those guys for nothing.

Always wondered what they do in these physicals to determine whether a players previous injury wont be a factor in upcoming season and green light a trade for  promising top prospect(s) in return.

Sure, a rotation from the middle of May on of Steele/Horton/Cabrera/Boyd/Shota is significantly better than what we had last year. But also feels like banking on health is probably a little optimistic. Last year it was Steele. This year...it could be no one! Or it could be Boyd, or Swanson, or PCA, or...who knows.

You can bank on the Brewers finding random guys off the street who will put up great numbers though.  That much is 100%

Improving a 92 win team, even modestly, while subsequently making it a younger feels a little more than ho hum.  But that's just me.

Aren't the Yankees pushing hard for Bellinger to return?

Very fair and correct.

Yes, I've also seen him linked to the Mets which makes quite a bit of sense.

I like this move a lot assuming Cassie is the lead piece and assuming they spend they saved money on a big bat.

They were also pushing hard to trade for Cabrera and look at how well that turned out for them.

Some fair points, but they don't need 10 yr megadeals to sign a good SP.  And if they won't sign huge FA deals then they're dumb as rocks to trade talented hitting prospects like Cam Smith.

Jed is stuck between a rock and a hard place.  This trade is only about saving money.

You're forgetting Taillon...

Getting Cabrera could make it interesting later in season, if all stays healthy they will have options to move SP for a bat if needed at deadline.

This trade is only about saving money but Cabrera is significantly more expensive than Caissie and will be for the entirety of his time with the Cubs and they're now more likely to spend on a bat since they got a pitcher for below Market value? How does that make any sense?
