Phillies were said to be discussing non tendering Bohm. They have been trying to get rid of him for years. Now signing Schwarber they make be looking to dump some salary. Obviously if he cost anything if real value a trade isn’t happening. And it was just an example of a smallish trade, anyway.

They havent been trying to get rid of him. They have said to have been listening on offers for him, but their asking price to make it happen has always been a non starter for anyone interested. If they wanted to get rid of him, he would have been gone.

Any rule 5 players Cubs could be interested in?  Guessing Hoyer could look onto adding a pitcher or two here

Guess it is possible. But he would have to make the 26 man roster all season. Not very likely.

I don't have any specific names, but I think there's a good argument to pick a defensive minded infielder

Apparently the Orioles offered Schwarber the same deal but the Phillies chose to match it. Interesting considering the Orioles also supposedly had the largest offer for Burnes last year. It looks like the new owner is willing to spend, but no one is taking the money. I'd almost be surprised at this point if Baltimore doesn't walk away with one of Framber, Ranger or Alonso.

I had a feeling upon seeing the terms that Schwarber went back to the Phillies and asked them to match his top offer elsewhere. It seemed he wanted to stay and Phillies wanted to keep him but weren't keen on going beyond 3/4 years. Guess they figured it was worth it. He's perfect for that lineup assuming they can address the rest of their OF.

I have an article dropping tomorrow that highlights 3 pitchers I think the Cubs might grab for the BP.

Won't spoil the list, but one has an 80-geade stache.

Every year, these things come out, and they aren't particularly accurate. They are good at team record, but not very good at actual player performance. It's about as good as Vegas odds and predicting records.  I wouldn't put much thought into the data.

...and the reason they are better at team record is that there is a smaller possible universe of outcomes.  No team is going to go 162-0, or 161-1 or 160-2....

Good way to get a bullpen arm or a bench player at low cost, and if they don't work out then it just 50K to return him

That puts him at 481 career home runs.  He will be a really interesting Hall of Fame candidate if he can get to 500.

He'd be an interesting conversation point for how to weight playoff performance, because by regular season performance I'm not even sure he would warrant making the ballot.

I think there's going to be less certainty than I'd like but I'm becoming less and less worried that Trueblood's article will come to pass.

This has Cub-implications in many ways. Connecting dots:

Rogers mentions Red Sox (Marte?) could be close to making trades. As were the Cubs. If Marte ends up in Boston, then Bregman to Chicago likely becomes more likely. Thus the Cubs, who ewre also mentioned by Rogers as a trade team, could be getting close to a SP as well?

That's where I was leaning. Redsox have a ton of assets, would think they make a splash this off-season with moving some.

After the Dodgers signing of Diaz, maybe they can loan us one of the 18 pitchers on their IL who would be upgrades in our bullpen.

Ofman hasn't been relevant in Cubs-media for quite some time. He's had some bananas takes this off-season

Nevermind..
