pretty rare to have a trade deadline look this pathetically terrible this quickly.

Yankees fans can join us in misery on this one, but at least their blow up was a little bit surprising.

Other teams go to the pen and immediately shut the Cubs down with a series of unknown relievers.

The Cubs go to the pen and immediately undo all the good work the starter did.

Let’s be honest other teams shutting down this massively slumping team is no mean feat. They barely have to execute.

That right there is why Jed got his extension: after a disaster inning, everything is forgotten as we all hug and sing the stupid song and buy another beer.

4 games is not doable

It’s only doable if the team ahead of you loses every once in awhile.

This is what we’re going to get with the combo that is Tom and Jed. I really don’t know who is the bigger joke.

Crazy thing is, the Red Sox were also given a ton of crap for not fixing their holes at the deadline, but they're 21-6 in their last 27 and have won 7 in a row.

It's crazy to think, but the Brewers might soon be nearly out of reach.  4 games is do-able, but if they drop a few more games over the next week, does anyone really think the Cubs can make up 6 games in a month and a half?

Yeah. It’s all up to the Cubs to handle business though. Time to wake the horsefeathers up. They play Milwaukee 5 straight games at home coming up. They’ve pissed away their lead and they have a prime opportunity to make it back up in one series. Won’t happen playing like this though obviously

Jed and Carter will ramble on and go into tons of overextended analysis about how they did the right thing at the trade deadline…even though they did the wrong thing. Jed is just afraid of making a mistake and when you are afraid to make a mistake you risk being mediocre.

At this point, the 5 game series is an advantage for Milwaukee.  Yes the opportunity is there to win 5 straight and gain 5 games.  It's more likely than winning the actual lottery but less likely than the Bulls winning the draft lottery in one of their 40-42 seasons.  if the Brewers lose 3 of 5, they knock 5 games off the schedule and only lose a game in the standings (and lose the tiebreaker I guess).  If they go 3-2, 4-1 or 5-0 they obviously benefit.  Cubs only make a dent if they go 4-1 or 5-0

Did I not tell you the Reds will catch the Cub before the end of the season. I’ll told you so.. this team is doing exactly what it’s done the last couple of seasons. They will miss the playoffs . Watch

So it seems missing the playoffs really is on the table.

Yes. There is a chance that when the season ends, the top bullet point on Jed's resume will remain “Theo’s Buddy”

I feel like an absolute sucker rooting for this team. The Cubs winning is a football, Tom and Jed are Lucy, and I am Charlie Brown.

Why is Francona going to bullpen again?  It’s not as if Tucker is a threat right now.

When every single team has a never ending supply of LHP to send up against our lefty hitters they might as well use them
