Yes, as has always been the case, you may hear things break for the next 30-60 minutes after that, though.

Castellanos is a notable recent example.  That got reported like 20-30 minutes post deadline

hopefully we don't get the dreaded "No more moves for the Cubs" tweet at like 6:03

I hate that tweet.

See: 2004 and Nomar Garciaparra

That seems to have been the case less often in recent years.  If we're not hearing about a deal right at the deadline or a few minutes after, it probably isn't happening.

Lets make Jed believe there is only 3 hours to go so he makes a deal before the fanbase panics

Maybe he got the same memo I got 😅😅😅

Not to be the downer, but this does have a somewhat of a feel of those recent deadlines where you thought the Cubs were going to do a big thing on the last day and then didn't. The hope is that this one materializes.

They don't need to do a big thing. Go get Kelly and Castro, boom done and a deadline I'm very happy with.

Yep cause right now outside of Gore, they haven't been connected to anyone the last hour or so.

Its has the same feeling as the Cubs offseason and not acting like a big market team but we still have time on the clock.

I’m beginning to worry that Jed might think these prices are way too high, and we stand pat or get more meh kind of additions.

I don't know why, at the very least, Willi Castro can't happen.

There are still 4+ hours to go. There's still plenty of time.

Yeah I don't mean to sound like they have to. Only that there seems to be some hope they do.

Agreed.  Just a feeling I have.  I truly hope I’m wrong.

i'm not expecting anything big, but if kittredge is the best player they end up with, it's a huge whiff by jed

I don't think there's a concern there will be at least one more P and a hitter. I think worst case this will be a "fine" deadline. Will also add I think Soroka is better than Kittredge, but I am actually pretty cool with both. That's more semantics though.

But that said, I do think the Cubs should be a little irrational and get a controlled SP if they can. Even if it's a bit of an overpay.

It doesn't track with everything we've been hearing.  The Cubs are 28th in fWAR from SP since June 1st.  He knows we need SP and while he won't completely destroy the farm system, a cost controlled TOR pitcher is well worth the prospect capital even if he pays more than he wants.  It's a sellers market and the price is high...he's not going to cave until he sees whether the sellers go down on price.

I won't panic, but I'll probably start getting antsy if nothing is done by like 4:30, even knowing that a lot of trades usually come down to the last minutes.

AJ Preller has the patience of a toddler.  If that team had a better GM, they would have sucked for 1 year in order to have James Wood, CJ Abrams and Mackenzie Gore for the next 6 or 7.  I mean, mercy.  Jed looks like GM of the year next to that guy

Preller is a fool.  This Miller trade is ridiculous too.

I'll read the tea leaves here and say, if Kittredge is the best they get because Hoyer is desperately prospect hugging then you can kiss any realistic chances of retaining Tucker goodbye. There's no reason to hang onto all of Long/Alcantara/Caissie/Ballesteros if CF, 1B and RF are blocked for the better part of a decade. Each one of those guys would be blocked next year and for some of them even longer.

Yeah. If at the end of the day today they haven't touched their top 10 prospects, I'll be very disappointed.

I think that would signal very negative things regarding retaining any of our current Cubs anywhere near FA.

I like this, but I'd take it a step further and say top 5.

It's time to cash in one of Caissie/Alcantara, full stop.
