You have been suggesting upgrading the bench for years. But never give us an example of who they should go after and at what cost. Who are they going to get for the 100 AB they have for him? They are not cutting Turner and they have to have a back up catcher. So what infielder/outfieler can they get? How many teams have this random stud bench bat?
Jed basically said he likes the offense. He will be working on pitching.

I only mentioned Berti,Brujan, and Turner,  they obviously have the Catcher spot wrapped up.

It not my job to see who can be available come July, I can make 100 suggestions,  doesn't mean anything.

Turner likely isn't going anywhere,  he's their grandpa Rossy.

It shouldn't be hard to upgrade from Berti and Brujan, im sure Hoyer can find a couple bats available that'll be better then those two when needed.

He can stash them in Iowa if he wants one for running duties in the playoffs.

The thing with Grandpa Rossy was that he was still an above average defender behind the plate even if his bat was limited.  Turner is below average everything.  He, Berti, and Brujan are the easiest things to upgrade on the team as they are all poor in nearly every category.

I agree, im just saying as far as Turner goes they may just keep him because they like his veteran presence in the clubhouse with these guys.

Losing this game sucks too because it gives the season series to the Phillies.  Obviously we're all looking at the division and rightfully so, but if we do drop into the WC fray we're competing with a team like the Phillies for a spot.

Convince him to retire to open up a roster spot and pay him the difference in his salary as a hitting consultant and keep him in the dugout/clubhouse.  He is a wasted roster spot and he won't get a contract next year, surely he has to see that writing on the wall.

But that’s the thing. If it shouldn’t be that hard to upgrade the bench why do so many teams have terrible benches. I am just not sure it is as easy or as warranted as you suggest. Yes, I would love to add a solid bat. But to me all rhe resurces need to go to pitching. If they can get a guy cheap who can hit a bit, great. I just don’t think it is as easy as you suggest.

We continue to put up miserable efforts in rubber matches vs likely playoff opponents. Just roll over and play dead.

By my count, we took 1 vs LAD, 2 vs CIN (probably not making playoffs but they're in the mix as of now), and that's it. In all such series' rubber matches they scored 4 vs LAD, 2 vs SD, 1 vs PHI, 1 vs SF, 2 vs NYM, 11 vs CIN, 7 vs CIN, 0 vs DET, and TBD vs PHI.

Busch should have taken that AB for Turner and they should get PCA in there too. Try to win the game, why not.

Give them rest, probably more important than trying a very unlikely comeback

We see alot of playoff contenders upgrading their bench every deadline with adding someone that can help them.

Is there a way to see outside of backup catchers teams bench statistics, cause I would bet that just about all the other playoff teams has at least one guy they can count on unlike the Cubs with Turner,  Berti, or Brujan. Those 3 are probably at the bottom end of bench bats.

Maybe, Brown is just a bad match up for the Phillies? It's, what, 14 runs in his two starts vs them?  If the Cubs face them in the playoffs I hope Counsell really tries to spot Brown.

Not our day. 2-4 against Tigers and Phillies is a bit disappointing but long season, what can you do. Hopefully they can go 3-1 against the Pirates over the next 4 days.

4-3 vs LA

3-3 vs SD

1-2 vs SF

1–2 vs NYM

2-4 vs Phi

1-2 vs Det

IMO those are the strongest teams they have faced so far  They went 4-3 againts AZ  who look like a favorite for a playoff spot before the season .

It doesn’t. But since we are revisiting the Cubs series up until now, they also took 2 of 3 from the Rangers when the Rangers were 8-2 coming into the series. But since they are now under 500 apparently that doesn’t count as a good series win.

That’s a very touchy subject in here.
