I know it was 6-1 but Palencia was sort of all over the place there . Big play from McGuire

Someone above mentioned he hasn’t pitched all week, so hopefully it was just rust and this was a great opportunity for him to get some pitches in for when they really need him.

Yep. I expected him to be a little rough today. Plus I do not like closers in a gane where it isn’t a save. They seem to always struggle in those games. He should be ok now.

While I do not know that umpire, I have known his dad for a whole lot of years. I wish him more success moving forward.

Is this a real thing or is his "dad" just an older umpire who sucked like Froemming

This offense is so much fun. I can't remember them ever being this deep, with threats all throughout the lineup. This team is special.

2004 was that way a good chunk of the time.

  • CF - Corey Patterson
  • SS - Nomar Garciaparra / Alex Gonzalez
  • LF - Moises Alou
  • RF - Sammy Sosa
  • 3B - Aramis Ramirez
  • 1B - Derrek Lee
  • 2B - Todd Walker / Mark Grudzielanek
  • C - Michael Barrett

Even when it was Alex Gonzalez instead of Nomar, that offense could pop off at any moment.

Likewise, 2016 was crazy. I'm not going to try to post a standard lineup since the Zobrist / Baez / Bryant stuff had people rotating around constantly. But the lineup was consistently great.

Cubs lineup > Tigers lineup, this much is true, biggest difference is Skubal and, to lesser extent, when he returns, Jobe, and Mize.  That's a pretty good 1-2-3 going into a playoff series.  With Shota returning, if Jed can make a couple of moves and come close to approximating that of Tigers, it puts the Cubs, with their line up, over the top.  If I were a Tigers fan I'd be concerned about the line up, true they have that dawg of ace in Skubal but, they don't have that dawg of a bat such as the Cubs have with Tucker.  They're a big bat short which is probably easier to fix at TDL than being a pitcher short.

If Horton can finally achieve some consistency in his FB location tomorrow the Cubs will win.  I firmly believe they'll get to Flaherty for multiple runs, we're over due for a Tucker game.

What a call. These umps are in on the fix.

These umps were so good yesterday and so bad today.

Over the last month Justin Turner is hitting .270/.349/.405.

Keller, Thielbar, Pressly, Pomeranz, and Flexen haven't given up an ER and Palencia is almost perfect.  Everyone else in the pen has a 2.25 ERA or under also.

5th best overall team ERA over last 30 days (some of that Wrigley-aided, and schedule-aided).

So the Thursday night position player lineup is supposedly the first time in major league history that the whole lineup was 1st rounders? I have no way to confirm that, but I read it somewhere. Suzuki was DH and not drafted, so I'm assuming they meant position player lineup only. Surprised Reese McGuire was a first rounder.

Suzuki was a 2nd rounder in Japan.

Yesterday was the first HR by a 2nd or 3rd baseman this season for the Cubs. That's pretty staggering. Shaw's other HR was as a PH.

We need to get Amaya back. Anyone know when that is expected?

He went out over 2 weeks ago and they said it was 4-6 weeks. My guess is early July. Maybe a week before the ASB. But I have yet to hear about his progress, so who knows?

2016 had the deepest bench I’ve ever seen. 2004 on paper was elite, in practice, Nomar only got played for 2 months and missed time on the DL and were only 5th in the NL in scoring. They didn’t take walks and were over reliant on home runs. They had the names though.

Amaya will be a huge addition once he fully settles in and is healed.

The addition by subtraction from Berti to Shaw has kept the offense somewhat afloat after getting Piazza like production from the catcher position for the first month and Change.
