Really should have signed Saquon. We probably would have snuck into the playoffs. Those talents, not completely broken, usually don't hit FA. Eagles set themselves up for a dominant 5 year run.

Drafted Jalen Carter too

Why not break the bank though? They have like 70 mil in free cap space, who cares

I say that because the Bears need multiple bodies.  Tying up so much in one player may limit the number of players that can be signed.  In any case, without question, all of the money needs to spent.

The bears need impact players.

Dexter has more sacks and qb hits

Dexter will probably never be as good as Carter however, he's not bad by any means, nor is a significantly less player than Carter.  He's one of Poles' draft hits, put another guy who's a pass rushing threat next to him and we'll see an even greater impact.

Read a piece about Chase Young possibly following Dennis Allen to the Bears, I'd be okay with a short term contract for Young.  He flamed out in Washington and San Fransisco, Allen got him to play a higher level in New Orleans.  Think he could make a positive impact for the Bears.

I'm absolutely just horsefeathers stirring here because I do truly believe in Caleb and cant wait to see what he does with a functional offense next year.  But QBs picked in the draft after Caleb:

2nd overall - Pro Bowler and led team to NFC championship game

3rd overall - Pro Bowler (albeit the weak one where you get named when people drop out)

12th overall - Pro Bowl alternate and led team to playoffs

That is an indictment on the organization and coaching staff more than anything.

To me Pro Bowl no longer matters. I care very little that other draft picks made the pro bowl and Caleb Williams did not.

Drake Maye?  Yeah I remember when some thought we might take him.  I’m glad we didn’t.

Now watch I’ll be eating crow in a couple years.  Don’t care.  He’s not the guy we needed.  He’s Trubisky: the sequel.

And while Darnell Wright hasn't been great, can you imagine how much worse the line would be with a cheap FA signing at RT instead?

Yeah, don't get the constant griping about Carter, Wright and Dexter are draft hits for Poles.  And, in net, far outweigh just Carter.

Got to put up with this BS for 8+ months and it's going to suck.  I truly believe the Bears finally have the coaching in place that's going to allow Caleb to cook in 2025.  Come November, Caleb will be far outpacing Nix and Maye, along with a regressing Daniels.

Trubisky was a pro bowler

Not sure how anyone can value the term "pro bowler" in a serious discussion.

I'm not sure if you could get someone to actually pay me to watch that game in the comfort of my own home.

The main thing I worry about is mid to deep ball accuracy. I'm not sure (don't know) if that is a skill set that is improveable. I think holding on too long is a function of bad coaching and badly designed plays.

That’s my biggest worry as well.  I don’t believe it was an issue in college.  What I see is that it was considered a strength.  I don’t see how a guy suddenly sucks at deep throws unless it is coupled with another factor.

I don't know if breaking the bank lures Smith. He can pick his team, and there will be plenty knocking on the door, including already playoff caliber teams rather than hopeful playoff caliber teams.

Virtually every player takes the most money, especially a guy like Smith who has been getting paid 6th round money

There are two playoff teams with more cap space than the Bears along with a few with almost just as much.

It doesn't have to be an either or for Smith if he actually hits FA.

Do any of those teams need a guard as badly as the bears do?

FA - instead of breaking the bank for Trey Smith, how about targeting Becton, Jr - Eagles and Dalman - Falcons?  Going this route may allow for taking Jeanty at 10 or trading down.

No. Break the bank.
