Do any of those teams need a guard as badly as the bears do?

Considering the Bears have exactly one IOL under contract for next year ( Bates ) I would think that the answer is no. However that can easily be outweighed by them thinking they're one ( or two ) upgrades away from the promise land.

I really wouldn't mind tendering a small contract to Jenkins. I don't know if he can stay healthy enough to be a dependable starter, but he's a beast when he's healthy and not bad to have around on a roster.

injuries are one of those things that go 2 directions: big ones derail careers, little ones can disappear and never be a problem after a certain stage.

Jenkins is still in the latter catagory. I'm not sure I'd be ready to give up on him just yet unless the reported (before draft) cronic back issue is whats effecting him. In that case, he's the former, and time to move on

I’d definitely offer him an incentive laden one year prove it contract.  I’m also wondering if the numerous times he left games was slightly a function of a spineless HC.

So, I actually think Teven's injuries are a tad bit overrated. He's played in 80% of the snaps over the last 3 years. That's a solid number considering he probably could have played the last game or 2 at the end of his IR stint to start 2023 that made him auto-sit 4 games. He also was yo-yoed between LG and RG and had to share snaps with Lucas Patrick at one point for a few games.

My biggest issue with Teven is he seems to actually be the worst example on the Bears the last few years of how to handle a T/E stunt or identify a blitzing LB or DB. So if you can get a LG who has more awareness AND also more reliably on the field, I think you have to move on from Teven.

He has no incentive to take a 1 year prove it deal if he can get more on the open market.

***the number of snap % may only include games he was NOT on IR.

I read that he’s been on the line for 62% of the offensive snaps in 3 years

Factor in the numerous times he left games and yeah, 62% appears to be a more realistic estimate.  I’ve no problem with Jenkins moving on, he’s not going to morph into an Ironman for his next team.

Miles Garrett requesting a trade out of Cleveland. Wonder what the asking price would be?

If you have to ask, then you can not afford it.

He has 2/40 left. It’s probably multiple first rounders to start.

Well that more or less locks up them grabbing Abdul Carter if he's available.

According to a team source with knowledge of the situation, Poles’ deal runs through the 2026 season, and the expectation is he will receive an extension to align him with Johnson, who signed a five-year contract with Chicago, a term that is common for first-time head coaches.

What’s less common for first-time head coaches are substantial salaries. He’s believed to be making $13 million per year, whereas Eberflus made $6 million. As one source put it, the Bears “didn’t cut corners” when it came to paying Johnson.

Given how clear it’s been that BJ was holding out for the bears job when he passed on offers last year, I wonder how much they could have saved if they just bit the bullet on Eberflus after 2023/24 season. His price had to rise after this past season. I’d imagine Eberflus’s $6m salary would have been offset over the course of a 5 year deal with Johnson if it started last winter

I don’t usually get mad about this kind of stuff but if Ben Johnson was available last year, and interested in the Bears, and could have coached Caleb on his rookie season instead of Matt horsefeathers Eberflus what the horsefeathers was going on at Halas Hall. How did this whole past season even happen??

I assumed Poles felt obligated to give Eberflus a shot with a real nfl roster after tanking so egregiously. I would accept the theory that he was not allowed to fire Flus if not for the unnecessarily over the top public support he gave Flus.

Hopefully I’m wrong and Poles is just a good actor with a real plan.

The Bears had been cheap despite claims to the contrary

Eh, all evidence of the past decade has not been them being overly cheap. I mean you can nit pick certain things, but there's also plenty of evidence of them spending lots (whether on teams, coaches, or operations/facilities) through the past decade+. Just because they weren't making the most expensive move every time doesn't mean they were cheap.

Fox/Fangio/Gase staff was surely expensive.  HH renos a huge expense.  Arlington a huge expense.  Nagy I don't think was cheap and again paid up big to keep Fangio.  Plenty of big deals and big offseasons in player spending.  Eberflus was inexpensive, but reportedly Quinn was a finalist and would surely have been fairly expensive and all signs point to Poles just preferring Flus.

But yea now we can definitely put it to rest

Hard, hard pass on Myles Garrett, would cost way too many resources that are needed in building the OL.  Besides, I believe the defense can helped just as much by signing Josh Sweat or Chase Young and Marcus Davenport along with a day 2 DL pick.

I agreed. If the Bears were one big move away, I would say go for it but they are not. Stay the course, and continue to build up the roster.

I think Poles will correctly kick the tires on a deal for Garrett but, that's as far as it'll progress.  Read in a few places Young and Davenport might be inclined to follow Allen to the Bears.  Davenport, coming off an injury, should be fairly cheap.
