2021 was the third rated 2nd base prospect behind Nicky and ahead of Busch.

Sounds like filler now or insurance depending on one’s proclivities.

Hope Mervis gets a chance in Miami and does something with it. Just wasn’t gonna happen in Chicago after doing nothing with the chances he was given and Busch locking up 1B.

don’t really know much about Brujan, is he out of options?

He was DFA so I’d say no.

Out of options. Was once a very highly regarded prospect but has been terrible in limited MLB action. Bounced around a bit from Tampa, to Miami and now with us.

Wouldn't be surprised to see him DFA'd at some point and tried to be snuck down to Triple-A.

Fangraphs says Brujan is out of options.

Since the Tucker trade negotiations began in earnest, Jed has traded Paredes, drafted Workman, and now traded for Brujan.  The latter 2 have zero material cost so could very well be nothing, but they sure didn't *have* to take a Rule 5 pick(Jed hadn't taken one yet) and they sure didn't need to take on an out of options utility player to get rid of Mervis.

Yeah my two takeaways from this are:

1. We can say with some certainty that one of Workman/Brujan/Mastro will be on the OD roster

2. The team's backup 1B is someone not currently in the organization rather than like Tucker or Happ

He was just DFA'd last week.

Makes some 40-man space, more backup options at 3b, 2b, CF, SS. etc  Let's them promote Long to Iowa if they want.

I was a big fan of Vidal Brujan on mlb the show a few years ago.

My understanding was that he was projected with average or slightly above average contact and power, but that most of his value was supposed to come from speed and defense. No power has shown up thus far, and the defense has been sloppy. But a swing plane change and more limited defensive assignment (he played literally every position except for catcher last year) could see him make some gains.

I don't expect much. But I didn't expect much from Mervis at this point either.

This is a fun low risk former top prospect for former top prospect trade.  The difference is Brujan was a much better prospect and is a much more interesting player. Mervis had no place here anymore and I thought was gonna be released to go to the KBO or something. Brujan still might be a decent utility player.

Haven’t been around few a week. Great trade. Now World Series contenders.

Believe me. I only talk horsefeathers some of the time.

Mastrouboni still has 1 option left . He is going to Iowa . If they have space for Workman at AAA , could see a small trade for the Cubs to keep him . If not he will be return to the Tigers .

Brujan will be the 2B / SS reserve . My Guess is they are going cheap on the bench with Canario as well as the reserve OF ( out of options ). One more bench spot to cover and it has to be a 3B / 1B .

Pretty much my thoughts as well. Sign one bat that plays 1st and 3rd. I would think that bat should be right handed, or a switch hitter to give Busch a day off.
