Getting suspended for missing practices is not at all comparable to a guy horsefeathers up a play. NFL teams don’t bench guys for a half. They’ll cut you, or replace you. But they aren’t making a college coach statement by making you sit in timeout for being bad but then putting you back in because you are the better player. Your examples are not precedent for the discussion here.

It wasn’t that he made a bad tip. It was a idiotic mostly non-football play of not being ready at the snap that led to the bad tip. Which is the kind of thing what the other players got benched for.

"The organization used the term "conduct detrimental to the team," but reports have surfaced that the reason Alexander was suspended is because he inserted himself into the Packers' pregame coin toss against the Panthers last Sunday even though he wasn't listed as a captain.

"The decision to suspend a player is never easy and not one we take lightly. Unfortunately, Jaire's actions prior to the game in Carolina led us to take this step," general manager Brian Gutekunst wrote in the Packers' official release.

"As an organization, we have an expectation that everyone puts the team first. While we are disappointed, we had a good conversation with Jaire this morning and fully expect him to learn from this as we move forward together. We look forward to welcoming him back next week as he is a valued member of this team and will continue to be in the future."

Head coach Matt LaFleur was asked if Alexander's one-game suspension was strictly because of the coin toss incident or an acclimation of things.

"It's never for one thing. We'll all learn from it and we'll all move forward," he said.

I know it wasn't actually during the game, but it (could've) directly impacted the game. JA put himself first (like TS), and the Packers suspended him for a game. It doesn't just happen in college.

I know, blah, blah, Packers suck, blah, blah.

Does anyone think there is any possibility Flus gets fired after the season?

So, I was resigned to the fact that when Flus was retained last year that this was at least a 2 year thing. But Poles seems like the type that would really value what the players are saying. So far, off the top my head, you have Jaylon questioning why he can't travel with top WRs. Byard questioning just allowing the play before the Hail Mary. Kmet questioning players' discipline. DJ questioning the handoff to Kramer. Those are your leaders. Their words speak volumes. If they continue to question Flus, all bets are off.

The defense, cited as a reason you couldn't change coaches, would probably see very little drop off, especially initially. The Bears actually have ALL 11 starters under contract for next year. The only contributors who are FAs after the year are Darrell Taylor and Jack Sanborn, 2 pretty replaceable players. So if you don't drastically change the scheme, you shouldn't have much drop off on the defense.

Also a big factor could be how Caleb and the guys feel about Waldron. There was the captains meeting earlier in the year with him. You can't allow Flus to hire a 3rd offensive coordinator, so that could seal his fate as well. You also can't risk Caleb having a 3rd OC in 3 years, and that potentially happens if you let Flus hire a new OC and then he's fired the year after.

Ultimately, I think this is a similar decision to Fields. Poles wasn't 100% sure he was the guy. A better guy became available and he moved on. Gotta look at Flus the same way. If you aren't 100% sure he's the head coach of your next Superbowl team, then move on.

I'm not sure who the better coach is though. Who's the Craig Counsell to Flus' David Ross? Feels like they'd go with experience, but all the experienced guys are DCs as well. It kinda feels like Ben Johnson or bust. But Johnson doesn't have HC experience. Don't know if Poles would gamble with another 1st time coach after putting so much faith in another.

Admitting you have a problem is the step 1. 😁

I love the QB saying, that you have some you win because of, some you win with, and some you win in spite of. Flus is absolutely not in the first category. He's probably in the "win with" group, but the little impact a coach can have on gameday pushes him towards "win in spite of," or in the case of these four near certain wins, lose

Has he thrown one accurate deep ball all season?

And did he have this problem at USC?  It seems like he might have, but looked better his final season.  I don't really know.  Found this in an LA Times article:

But Williams is the nation’s most efficient passer, especially after improving his accuracy on passes in the intermediate and deep range. Williams has completed 81.8% of his passes between 10 and 19 yards this season, according to Pro Football Focus, a jump from 55.7% last year. His deep throws connect 57.4% of the time compared to last season’s mark of 41.8%.

I like KA getting some experience but any word on Braxton? Things shifted dramatically after he went down.

ESPN lists Jones as week to week with a knee injury

Jenkins, Murray both left with injuries and did not return. Tev looked like he got bent in half on the Kramer goal line fumble. Given he's had back issues that scared me.

Would be a good time for Borom and Bates to get back in the fold. Kramer was playing G at the end of the game next to Kiran, rough left side....

I'm not terribly worried about Caleb and the deep ball. I think its likely a chemistry thing and I think he's overthrowing them out of fear of throwing picks a little bit. I also think the quality of WR play across the board is a little lacking this year. Keenan Allen has looked slow and janky, Moore has been beaten up and I don't love the routes their designing for him, and Odunze has been OK but not awesome. There wasn't a lot of separation this last game, even though there were usually open guys for Caleb to find. Overall, they've been a huge advancement over the utter garbage we've been running out there for the last 5 or so years, but not the amazing security blanket we may have fantasized about over the offseason.

Mostly staying out of Bears discourse this week because it's going to be even more full of bad takes than usual

But I will say

1) One of my main criteria for coaches is that they can't lose the locker room.  Eberflus should probably start sweating that one, although more wins would probably keep it from boiling over

2) A few scouting reports did note Williams' inconsistency with deep ball accuracy in college.

Someone on Reddit has a someone told someone told someone rumor that Bill Murray has a torn pec.  Obviously grain of salt rumor but would be weird to make up a rumor about the injury severity of a Bears offensive lineman

Bernstein mentioned his injury yesterday and didn't sound optimistic, so he may know something he can't say out loud, and that makes this more plausible to me than it would be otherwise.

The OLine is a real concern, but I also don’t think it was so disastrously bad on Sunday even with the injuries to fully explain how badly the offense functioned. Aside from a 3 play sequence with Amagadjie playing turnstile, the protection wasn’t horrific and the run blocking was downright good all day. I think it just unfortunately mostly came down to how rattled Caleb looked, from the very beginning. He wasn’t the guy we saw the previous two weeks. Hopefully they can clear it up this coming week. They are just not comfortable offensively on the road so far.

I’m willing to forgive most things if Chicago can come out and take care of business against Arizona and New England before they hit the divisional schedule. If they can right that ship, I think Eberflus is fine and provided they don’t completely horsefeathers the bed down the stretch, he’s probably sticking around. And for Caleb’s sake, I hope so, I hope we don’t have to have more shake up for him. So we’ll see.

Yes! What we need with our rookie QB to change coaches….AGAIN!

wtf are the Bears going to get it right?

Unfortunately, that part of that ship has sailed.

Ben Johnson would be amazing and would hurt Detroit.

Follow up to my post about Hamp and OB yesterday, WGN actually posted video of them seeing them celebrate the win then witnessing the hail mary in real time:
