“A really good moment.” Like the moments Eberflus got praised for last year which included partially getting out of the messes he himself made. You shouldn’t get an award for that.

So Stevenson admitted #85 who caught the Hail Mary was his responsibility. Now I’m even more pissed.

Yeah I saw that.  And then explained that he was just cheering with Bears fans in the corner, not taunting Commanders fans.  So much better.  Dude will recover but he'll never live down the colossal f up on that play.

Every coach has their own type of coach speak that you get used to.  If they're not a good coach it eventually gets on your nerves.  Flus' coach speak is there for me right now.

According to Silvy, the combined chances of the Bears blowing the Denver game, the Detroit game, the Cleveland games last year and the Washington game were roughly 1 in 1,000,000

I'm not happy about the Hail Mary, but I'm also not ready to throw Stevenson out with the bathwater. Hes still a young player and made a play on the ball that turned out to be a huge mistake, and he will definitely learn from it.

I'm really not happy it took 3 quarters for the offense to click. Bears should have been up by much more at that point.

I’m not giving up on him, but with his history which includes getting disciplined during 2023 training camp for loafing, he needs to be disciplined

Yep, I'm not giving up him either.  He's had some issues but has showed a lot of promise as a DB.  But this is absolutely not an isolated incident, I believe he's had a couple of other personal fouls and some pretty glaring defensive miscues.  All things I chalked up to being a rookie last year, but they definitely do add up over time and eventually he's got a reputation for making boneheaded plays.  I know the secondary is banged up, but he needs to be suspended the first quarter or half of next week to make a point about accountability.

The Bears will have their shot at redepemtion when they get to travel to D.C. for the third straight year in 2025.

4th straight year of playing them too.  2022 we had a very similar game to yesterday...it was actually also 12-7 late in the 4th quarter, but on 4th and goal from the 4, Fields threw a pass to Mooney that went 3.95 yards and they lost (which is somehow less painful than actually getting the TD and then giving up a hail mary for the L).  Last year we blew them out by 20 in one of Justin's best passing games as a Bear (282 yards, 4 TD, 0 INT, 125.3 QB rating....though 15-29 passing 😄)

I don’t really think that is a thing at the pro level.

How is it not a thing?  I mean sure pay him for the game as normal but you simply don't play him in the first quarter/half of the game.

Wow...do any of you ever listen to Hamp and O'B's postgame shows on WGN?  If you do, you'll know these guys are humongous meatballs and spend half the show yelling about how horrible everything is, even when the Bears win.  It's entertaining even if some of their rants are questionable.

Anyways, they started their postgame show before the Hail Mary.... you have Hamp talking about how the Bears played awful but is pleased they managed to come away with the win.  And then in real time they saw the hail mary happen and the vibe changed very quickly.

It's a very entertaining listen in a sad/painful way....

Hamp & O’B: What the hail was that? Bears stunned on last second touchdown | WGN Radio 720 - Chicago's Very Own

The realization comes at about 1:16 into the podcast

That’s like a college thing an Alabama team does when they play a cream puff opponent to send a message without risking a loss. NFL teams berate the player in the video room and then generally don’t publicly shame guys as far as I know.

Next Sunday can’t come soon enough. They may horsefeathers the bed again, and that will be a different question (and may seal Eberflus’s fate) but at least we can get past this one.

Romeo Dobbs got benched/suspended a few weeks ago. There was a player who got benched for running onto the field and taking the coin toss as a captain. There is some precedent.

Jaylon Johnson said that the coaches won’t let him mirror the #1 receiver. He has to stick to his side. I don’t understand that.

I feel like Lovie was like that, except when it came to Peanut vs Magatron

Does anyone think there is any possibility Flus gets fired after the season?

Oh there's absolutely a possibility of it - if they go under .500 I'd honestly be surprised if they don't fire him.

But I'm also reasonably confident the team finishes above .500 (but likely out of the playoffs given the division)

I honestly find the focus on Eberflus after this game a little misplaced. Was he bad at the things he could control? Absolutely, but I think it's a much smaller part of the story of why the Bears lost.  I feel like fans are really searching for an acceptable scapegoat for this game and coaches are a very easy target.

Like, 90% of the reason the Bears lost this game was because Caleb Williams had a really bad game for 3 quarters. The Bears defense kept them, improbably, in the game to the end, and Eberflus flubbed a few things and there were a couple curious playcalls, and then there's the play at the end which...crazy weird horsefeathers happens sometimes and it doesn't help that Stevenson really made an ass of himself - but none of that matters if there's even sub-average, replacement level offensive production for 3 quarters of the game. Caleb was really bad! He missed wide open people continuously! He took off running at times he really didn't need to! The Offensive Line wasn't very good and then got worse when they lost people to injury! These aren't really things a Head Coach can just magically make better. It just happens.

Agree he’s got to be better than Sunday.  He put in a bad game before and came back strong.  Hopefully he does that again.

Getting suspended for missing practices is not at all comparable to a guy horsefeathers up a play. NFL teams don’t bench guys for a half. They’ll cut you, or replace you. But they aren’t making a college coach statement by making you sit in timeout for being bad but then putting you back in because you are the better player. Your examples are not precedent for the discussion here.
