I've tried to stay away from Chicago sports media this week but I can see there's rumblings about players being unhappy about the coaching staff. I dunno.  I hope it's not a real serious thing.

Ultimately, if you zoom out, if they win the next two weeks, everything is basically where you want it to be and roughly where you hoped it would be at this point in the offseason. I hope the focus is there and not looking backwards. Burn the tape on the Wash game, tighten up things with the offense, tighten up things with the players who have been a little lax, and take care of business going forward.

That is definitely not a game you burn the tape. There are things to learn and improve. You can’t pretend it was some flukey game we just ignore and get past.

If you want to burn something from the game, make it Tyrique Stevenson.

Haven't seen it mentioned here, but apparently he was running his mouth exactly the same way on the play before the hail mary. So that's......fun.

Well, I definitely want Caleb looking at the film. I think I was speaking on a more emotional level like: get past this game, nothing is totally horsefeathered, the reaction from fans and the media is a tad overblown and reactive, there are two very winnable and important games coming up. The season is way too early and the team is still too promising to act like the sky is falling.

I think it is a mistake to look at the Hail Mary and say, well it was a fluke they lost. They didn't play well on offense for most of the game.

I didn't say it was a fluke they lost, they got outplayed all game and deserved to lose. It would have been a fluke if they won, frankly.

But I also don't think this game is entirely indicative of the team's talent - just as the Panthers and Jaguars games weren't totally indicative of their strength. It's like, I saw how people responded after the first 3 games (everyone lost their minds and were furious) and then after the next 3 games (things are awesome and great) and its like, the truth is somewhere in the middle. I don't think the last game is a sure sign there is catastrophic, systemic failure on the team, but absolutely things to learn, develop, fix, and improve on. The reaction, I think, is just a bit apocalyptic. It need not be.

I think the overreaction from people, me included, is that this loss reinforced a lot of the things we thought were bad about the coaching staff even during the 3 game winning streak.  There's a real chance this season goes Trestman on us if Flus doesn't handle the rest of this week well and win this weekend.

I'm having trouble getting past the Hail Mary and the play before it.  The rest of the game? Bears were bad.  They can look at all that stuff and work on it.  I'm sure they will.

Not the final sequence though.  Flus (or his DC) calls the defense way off the ball and hands them the yardage to get in position.  That's coach stupidity.  You don't really fix that other than replacing the coach which won't happen this year.  And a player taunting fans instead of looking at the snap.  That's a guy who doesn't have his head on straight.  Maybe you fix that for a little while but if it's in his nature it will surely come out again.

To me it's just one more damning indication that Flus and his regime is weak sauce.  We're playing games with what should be the dawning of the Williams era, several playoff seasons and a winning franchise.

The thing that bothers me the most is that we had 3 TOs.  If you see the sideline views, it looks like Eberflus wanted to adjust to protect the sidelines but just let it play out.  Same thing with the Hail Mary.  Call a TO, remind your defense to do things like pay attention when the ball is snapped instead of taunting fans, or we don't need a spy on this play, rush the QB, etc.  But nope, we ended the game with 3 timeouts.

And then when asked about it instead of taking accountability he tried to make it seem like he did all the right stuff there, it just didnt work out.

When was the last time this team had a HC who wasn't a complete dope in front of the media?  Nagy in his early days?  John Fox when he gave a crap?  Lovie?

I found out a few weeks ago that Fall Out Boy did an updated cover.  It featured such gems like this:

Quote

More war in Afghanistan, Cubs go all the way again
Obama, Spielberg, Explosion, Lebanon
Unabomber, Bobbitt, John, Bombing Boston Marathon
Balloon Boy, War on Terror, QAnon

horsefeathers I'm old.

Their version is so bad it somehow makes the original look good. Like, at least Joel was basically going in order. FOB's is just, "here's a bunch of horsefeathers that happened at wildly different times!"

I think he's not too far removed from Halas.
