I really do love Chourio making a good catch, all huffing and puffing about good he is, then, playing a fairly catch able line drive into double which helped to ignite a 5-run inning sealing the Brewers fate.

Today the Brewers, in an elimination game, are going with Frankie Montas/bullpen.  Given how hot Lindor has been, along with a few other Mets, I'd say there's a good chance the Brewers are done after tonight.  Then again, when it comes to pitching, the Brewers have had a horseshoe up their asses all season, so, it wouldn't surprise me if Montas is effective and the Brewers win.

Since this playoff format started in 2022. All but 1 series ended in 2 game sweeps.

Lets see what happens today

Even if you include 2020 thats 14 of 17 and we’re 6 outs away from 15 of 18.

When is the sample size large enough to consider this a legitimate thing about the WC round? And if it is a thing, why exactly?

Also home teams have won 8 of the 17 series (6 outs from 8 of 18) so it seems like home field has very little effect so far.

I’m glad the Cubs are refusing to participate in this WC round thing because it would really suck to win 91 games and have your season be over 72 hours after the regular season ends. I guess this was always a possibility with just the WC game previously but now it can happen even after winning the division.

Orioles are going to be swept out of the playoffs because their 2B inexplicably didn’t take the much easier out and throw to get the out at 2B

Let’s go Royals! Erceg was such a good trade. Very jealous of that one.

Wow, who would of thought the Tigers and Royals would not only make the playoffs but knock off the Astros and Orioles to move on to the NLDS.

3 AL Central teams in final four for the American League

Those are odd results, but there's no logical reason why that should be the case.  I suspect it's primarily just randomness that will even out over a much larger sample.  Maybe there is a LITTLE bit of added pressure on the team that loses the first game, causing them to play tighter and increasing their chances of losing the second, but no way that explains 15 out of 18.

And has anyone paid attention to the pens of those two teams? Any star middle relief arms? And star closers? Or is is just a collection of mainly youngish system guys with maybe a average(ish) middle relief pitcher added to the young guys. In fact the “established, dependable” Astros pen arms (Pressley and Hader) actually blew the game.

Curious how Houston responds this winter.  Last year it was foot firmly on the gas pedal because the farm was trash and the MLB roster had very little of consequence under control past '25.  But with Diaz and a couple young pitchers popping the post '25 roster doesn't look totally desolate, though it's definitely not in good shape.  Is it still all gas no brakes for one more big year?  Or do you deal a Tucker and/or a Framber and try to pull off a somewhat unlikely soft landing?

MLB wanted this. No one cares about the regular season in any sport unless there's some theoretical chance of a postseason berth, but because the only way to make that a thing most of the season is to have a thousand playoff teams, we have to create systems that make the regular season mean little. This would be largely fine if baseball wasn't an inherently random sport where even the worst team in the majors can (usually) beat the best team 35-40% of the time.

I can't stand it in concept, though because the Astros got bounced I'll accept it this year.

Leave it to the Brewers to be the one team that breaks the sweep trend in the WC round.  Hope Mets can finish them off tomorrow.

Win your division then lose two at home?  You deserve to be bounced.  At least there is a series albeit a short one.  If there are better ideas I’d gladly take them but it’s better than the one-and-done that we had.

Thank God the Stros are out.

Orioles potentially going out early again, this time by scoring one measly run. The fanbase has to be dying inside.

That's now 10 straight playoff losses for the Orioles, tied for the 4th longest streak ever.
