Well according to Cubs.com, Prior threw again today and there are some good quotes about it over there. Basicaly he says that stuff like throwing doesn't nessacarily bother him all the time but some everyday stuff aggrvates it and he is taking it 1 day at a time.

And more importantly, he threw all of his pitches.

Prior threw a simulated game today! By Mazur's count, he threw 58 pitches over 4 innings. His arm felt good and his strength was there. Great news.

Mark gave up 1-run on a HR to Macias.

Cubs.com[/url]"]NEW YORK -- Chicago Cubs pitcher Mark Prior's rehab took a major step forward on Friday when he threw about 60 pitches over four innings in a simulated game Friday at Yankee Stadium.

Prior, out since being struck on the right elbow by a line drive on May 27, faced teammates Jose Macias, Jason Dubois and Jerry Hairston Jr. in the early session.

"Mark threw the ball well and it was a pleasant surprise, actually," Cubs manager Dusty Baker said. "He's pretty sharp. You have to wait a couple days to see if there's soreness in that area. We were pleasantly surprised to see his velocity and his sharpness and his breaking ball, and just the fact that he's on the mound."

The Cubs decided to have Prior throw after he felt no discomfort from his throwing session on Tuesday.

"There's never been a timetable because nobody really knows a timetable," Prior said. "We're evaluating the day after workouts to see where we're at and where I'm at, obviously, and then have discussions as to what our next step would be. That's what we did Wednesday, and we made the determination that if we could use the field today, we'd try to throw to some hitters and get a workout that way.

Prior's simulated game: 5+ IP, 75-77 pitches, threw everything, thinks he's ready to go. It's up to Jim and Larry right now.

Scott Williamson pitched today for Mesa. He didn't do too well, but the important thing is that he's pitching:

1.1 IP, 3 hits, 6 runs, 2 earned, 1 BB, 3 Ks

He started the game for the M-Cubs and pitched a 1-2-3 first (K looking, 2 groundouts). Things went bad when the first man he faced in the 2nd reached thanks to a passed ball on a strikeout which was followed by a HBP. He faced 10 batters.

Cubs.com says Nomar is hitting off a a tee in Mesa still no time table on his return. Still looking like late July.

That's good news.

If he's already throwing 2 IP, he might only be a month or so away.

Right on! If Williamson can contribute anything this year it will be like making a trade without losing a player. Maybe even better, like losing Wilson :D

Lenny said Nomar was doing 'very basic baseball' skills right now. I think he mentioned ground balls hit at him, etc.

Yeah ground balls at him, as well as he is at least hitting off of a tee per a Cubs.com blurb a couple of days ago.

Would be cool if we could get him back for Aug 1, but I won't count on it. But imagine:

Kotsay

Nomar

Lee

Ramirez

Burnitz

Walker

Barrett

Patterson

Now ARam gets plunked below the knee and is day-to-day. Hopefully it's nothing serious, and he's back in a couple days. I don't know how much Macias I can take.

According to a story posted today at Sportsline.com, Nomar's recovery is going better than hoped for. Nomar said he hopes to start running the bases next week, and their is some optimisim that he may be able to return for the final two months of the season.

GET WELL SOON NOMAR, WE NEED YA!! :D

Does that involve watching Tom Emanski's Instuctional videos?

From Rotowire.com:

Jul 1 Garciaparra said he is recovering faster than he expected from surgery to repair a ruptured tendon in his left groin and hopes to return for the final two months of the regular season, the Associated Press reports.

Recommendation: "Physically, I feel pretty good right now," said Garciaparra. The shortstop is taking ground balls and batting practice and doing some light running, but he has difficulty pushing off. He said his strength and stamina are increasing, and hopes to start running the bases next week. Though there is still no precise timetable for his return, it looks like those owners who have held on to Garciaparra this long will be rewarded with some late-season production.

From KFFL.com:

Jul 1 The Associated Press reports Chicago Cubs SS Nomar Garciaparra (groin) says he's healing ahead of schedule from a torn groin. Garciaparra is taking ground balls and batting practice and doing some light running, but he has difficulty pushing off. He said his strength and stamina are increasing, and hopes to start running the bases next week. "Before, I couldn't do a crunch or a sit-up," said Garciaparra. "A few weeks ago, on the 10th one, I was like, 'It's too much.' Now, I'm able to do 50."

From Fanball.com:

Jul 1 The Cubs got some good news on Friday when shortstop Nomar Garciaparra said he is recovering faster than expected from surgery to repair a ruptured tendon in his left groin and hopes to return for the final two months of the regular season, reports the Associated Press. The former All-Star is participating in batting practice, but he has difficulty pushing off when he attempts to run. Despite not being able to run without pain, Garciaparra is making progress. "Before, I couldn't do a crunch or a sit-up," he said Friday. "A few weeks ago, on the 10th one, I was like, 'It's too much.' Now, I'm able to do 50."

Views: While it appears Nomar's health is heading in the right direction, there is still no word from team doctors on when they expect him to return. Since he believes he may be able to play as many as eight more weeks of baseball this season, it is not a bad move to keep him on your DL if you've got room. If not, be sure to keep an eye on his recovery and check with us for updates on a possible return date.

From Stats.com:

Jul 1 Garciaparra hopes to start running the bases next week, as he continues to recover from surgery to repair a torn tendon in his left groin. The Cubs' shortstop, who has been sidelined since April 20, has resumed taking grounders and is jogging lightly. If he remains on the current pace, Garciaparra is optimistic that he will be available for the last two months of the 2005 campaign.

Advice: Garciaparra still has a long way to go, but he can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Neifi Perez will handle the majority of the duties at shortstop for the Cubs until Garciaparra is back on the field.
