Well, now we know why ARam was taken out.

From Cubs.com:

The Cubs won't know until game time Thursday whether third baseman Aramis Ramirez (sore right quad) and outfielder Jerry Hairston (bruised left calf) are available. Both are listed as day-to-day.

Aramis and his legs worry me.

Woody will throw a side session on Friday and if everything goes well he'll be off for a rehab assignement. From Cubs.com:

Chicago Cubs pitcher Kerry Wood will throw on the side Friday and, if all goes well, could begin a rehab assignment in which he will begin his conversion from a starter to a reliever.

Rothschild wasn't sure where Wood would go, saying it will depend on which Cubs Minor League team is home. The Triple-A Iowa Cubs are on the West Coast and won't be back until Aug. 4, when they open an eight-game homestand. Double-A West Tenn will be home from Friday to Aug. 4, and Class A Peoria is only home Aug. 2-3.

"It's more important that he gets used to the routine than where he's pitching," Rothschild said.

Wood, who has been a starter his entire career, will have to make some adjustments in his new role.

"We'll have to see how quick he can get ready, how quick he can recover and really how he feels," Rothschild said. "It'll be more important the day after he throws an inning or two then maybe has a day off and throws again -- we'll see how he rebounds from that."

Better get your tickets now DJAXX. Looks like Nomar and Woody could both be rehabbing in West Tenn this coming week.

The Trib

Kerry Wood and Nomar Garciaparra may rehab together next week at Double-A West Tenn and could rejoin the Cubs in time for their series against the New York Mets at Shea Stadium on Aug. 5-7.

Everything depends on their progress, but Garciaparra will report to Wrigley Field on Friday after a two-game rehab stint at Class A Peoria and Wood will throw off a mound Friday to see if the cortisone shot he received July 21 will allow him to start throwing without pain in his shoulder.

Both could receive their marching orders Friday. West Tenn plays at home Saturday and Sunday and Tuesday through Thursday. Triple-A Iowa plays on the West Coast next week and the Cubs would like the two to be close in case they are brought up to New York next weekend.

According to Hendry, the current plan is for Garciaparra, Williamson, and Wood to all be activated on Friday, August 5th.

Not doubting you, but where did you see/hear this?

WGN Radio pregame show. Hendry will be on WGN TV in the 2nd inning and likely say the same thing.

What about Greenberg ;)

He did.

It will be interesting to see what roster moves are made. My guesses (subject to change if any trades are made tomorrow): Cedeno down to Iowa for Nomar, Mitre and another relief pitcher (possibly Wuertz or Novoa) down to Iowa for Wood and Williamson.

With both Garciaparra and Williamson coming off the 60 day DL, someone also needs to be dropped off the 40 man roster or put on the 60 day DL. Any guesses?

Can someone tell me when Pie is due back? Don't know if this belongs here or in the minor league forum..

Welcome to the board.

There's a thread in the minor league forum about his injury (should still be on the front page). As of a few days ago, he's still at least a week away.

What happened to Prior today? I missed the game.

He's not hurt. He was taken out because he was up over 100 pitches and was struggling.

Thank god. I caught one radio bit where Santo was describing how he landed funny on the 1st base side a couple of times and automatically took into account the 'cubs factor'.

I just got home from a remarkably lousy weekend, pulled up Cubs.com, and saw that Z left with back issues. This season plain sucks for the Cubs, but Z going down with an injury is pretty much the last thing in the world I wanna see. He has been the single solid staple of this roster since '03. Any extra info on this anyone?

You know, I really love seeing this thread active. Always good news.

Can we cash in this season now? Z is hurt, all we have left is Prior for reliability.

cubs.com[/url]"]CHICAGO -- Aramis Ramirez is hurt, and the only way he can heal his sore right leg is to take extended time off. Right now, the Chicago Cubs can't afford to have him on the bench.

"He's not 100 percent, and he hasn't been 100 percent for a while," Cubs manager Dusty Baker said of Ramirez. "There's a couple guys who I told to play smart because we can't afford to lose them.

"It may look like they're not hustling, but [Ramirez] hurt his leg hustling out a play to first base about a month ago," Baker said. "In order for us not to lose him for two weeks or more, we urged him to play smart. It's going to look bad, and sometimes the fans are going to think he's not hustling. But that's what he has to do."

Ramirez hurt his quad running to first base in the Cubs' July 27 game against San Francisco.

"We're lucky to have him now," Baker said. "We have to find a way to keep him in the lineup."

I think you can afford to sit him, Dusty.

Garciaparra said he felt his back tighten up after lunging to catch Orlando Palmeiro's hard line drive in the second inning. He said he felt OK when he hit his solo homer two innings later, but decided to leave in the fifth after having trouble moving around in the field.

``I'm not really concerned about it,'' Garciaparra said. ``I know it's muscle and nothing other than that. I know it's matter of calming down. It's a good thing we have the day off tomorrow. I think with that day off and rest I'll be ready to go.''
