According to Williamson, the Cubs need to see him throw in back-to-back games at Iowa. He said that it could be a matter of five or six days before he gets activated or as much as three weeks.

does that mean activated to the big leagues in five to six day ect or the minor leagues?

Majors, but I suspect he'll spend closer to 10 days in Iowa at a minimum.

Yeah I heard the interview with Williamson also, but I think the first week of August is the very earliest that we would see him.

The preliminary diagnosis on Kerry is shoulder inflammation. No word if they'll now schedule an MRI or what they'll do next.

Big surprise. What a joke.

the cortisone shot may help to remove the inflammation and whatever pain quickly, but until what causes the inflammation is removed (the flaw in Kerry's delivery) this injury will just continue to recur.

There's a thread in Transactions on it...CSN reports Wood to the 15 day DL.

Any word on who was recalled to replace him?

Apparently not, I haven't seen a transaction regarding this listed on ESPN.com, Yahoo, etc. yet.

I'm curious. It could be Rich Hill. But then with the bullpen spent, they might call up Wellemeyer and then send him back down and call Hill up to start for Wood. If they plan on Mitre starting, they could call up either Hill or Welly for the pen...or they could recall Grieve or Fontenot and just return to 11 pitchers.

I'd like to see them call up Grieve or Fontenot and move back to 11 pitchers like you said, but they've gone with 12 all season (or at least a majority of it) and I don't expect them to change that, unfortunately.

My guess is, Rusch replaces Wood in the rotation and they call up Welly.

Welly threw 7 innings the day before Hill, he might not be able to offer much in the way of pen help tomorrow. On the other hand, he's red hot, throwing 13 consecutive shutout innings since the AAA all-star break.

According to Mark O'Neal, Kerry felt very good today and if he's feeling the same tomorrow, he'll be allowed to play catch. They're still optimistic that he'll only miss one start.

Larry was interviewed on WGN Radio today and said that he really doesn't know if Kerry can pitch through the inflammation. If they determine that he can't, he could likely go to the bullpen for the rest of the season. And if he can't do that, he'll probably have his shoulder scoped.

Ouch.

And there's the reason why I never read this thread.

They don't know what's going to happen. They'll have to just wait and see how Kerry responds.

Well here's just hoping it's just one start, and that he can pitch through it. But if not, I just want what is best for Kerry's health.

On a happier note, Williamson continues to make progress. :)

Pitcher Change: Scott Williamson replaces Robert Brownlie.

Esteban German strikes out swinging.

Drew Meyer strikes out swinging.

Chad Allen grounds out, second baseman Richard Lewis to first baseman Scott McClain.

So 2 IP, 4 strikeouts, 0 walks, 1 ground out, 1 pop out, and 0 balls out of the infield.

I'd say that's good.

Trib[/url]"]Reliever Scott Williamson, rehabbing at Iowa, isn't expected back for another eight to 10 days, though his velocity is back to 92-93 m.p.h.
