I know I'm asking for a lost lunch....but what do you mean by "shoulder scoped"?

I'm no doctor, but I think "scoped" is just the shorted way of saying arthroscopic surgery - to clean up the inflammation and whatnot and remove anything that is in there.

EDIT: Just did a quick google and this is what I came up with.

Shoulder Scope

A soulder arthrocsopy, commonly referred to as a "shoulder scope," is a procedure that allows your orthopedic surgeon to look inside your shoulder with a small camera. Using small instruments, your surgeon can perform delicate surgery through tiny incisions around the shoulder joint. Learn more about shoulder arthroscopy and the conditions that can be treated with this type of surgery. Read on for more information...

Larry was interviewed on WGN Radio today and said that he really doesn't know if Kerry can pitch through the inflammation. If they determine that he can't, he could likely go to the bullpen for the rest of the season. And if he can't do that, he'll probably have his shoulder scoped.

I'm just bumping this up so people don't get confused and think Kerry had his shoulder scoped already if they come to this page.

that was my reaction when I first read the above two posts.

Nomar Garciaparra (groin) is expected to begin playing in games for the Rookie AZL Cubs this weekend.

From KFFL.com:

Jul 24 Updating previous items, Mike Kiley, of the Chicago Sun-Times, reports Chicago Cubs SS Nomar Garciaparra (groin) will likely join Class-A Peoria for a rehab start Tuesday night, July 26, if the team is satisfied after Garciaparra's performance with the team's rookie ball team in Mesa, Arizona on Sunday, July 24.

Wood might need offseason surgery, according to cubs.com

Pitcher Kerry Wood, sidelined with a strained right shoulder, may need surgery this offseason to correct the problem, Chicago Cubs manager Dusty Baker said Sunday.

Cubs athletic trainer Mark O'Neal confirmed that the team has considered surgery, but emphasized if done, it would most likely be after the season was over.

O'Neal said the Cubs are not considering any surgery now, saying "that's not where we are at at this point."

I hate this thread. Some terrible news on Wood:

Off-Season Surgery Likely for Wood

The Cubs acknowledged Sunday that Kerry Wood may have arthroscopic surgery during the off-season to clean up minor fraying in the labrum of his right shoulder, and that a switch to the bullpen in 2006 also will be discussed.

Wood is expected to miss at least two starts after suffering soreness again during a start at Cincinnati last Wednesday and could be bound for the disabled list if he doesn't feel better in the next day or two.

Trainer Mark O'Neal confirmed surgery "absolutely" is an option that will been considered after the season.

"This has been a tough season for Woody," he said. "It's been a tough season for all of us.But we've got to make sure he's taken care of and his shoulder is taken care of.

"We're going to evaluate it at the end of the year, see how this situation plays out. But there's no question we're just going to shut [him] down at the end of the year and cross our fingers and hope we're perfectly fine next year."

Wonderful.

I am going under the knife to have my labrum sewn back up, and my Dr told me it would be 3-4 months until I was "back to normal" (whatever normal is). My guess is he would start next season on the DL because he probably would not get much time in ST. One of the assumptions in this post is that both Kerry and I do the rehab we are supposed to do. I wonder if he'd like to hang out with me when his surgery is over... :-k

This question might be getting ahead of ourselves but how is the recovery time from a surgery on a minor labrum tear?

In the trib article, they compared this injury to what Matt Morris went through last year. Morris had shoulder surgery on his labrum in December, and started the year on the DL as the Cards could go with a 4-man rotation early. We could only hope Kerry could come back as early and be as effective as Morris has.

If Wood has surgery earlier than Morris did, such as soon as the Cubs' season ends (after the World Series :D ), he might be recovered earlier than Morris and might not need to miss any of the season.

According to Rotoworld:

According to ESPNews, Kerry Wood (shoulder) has been placed on the 15-day disabled list by the Cubs.

Wood was scheduled to throw this afternoon. His session must not have went as well as hoped. Jul. 25 - 5:52 pm et

According to Kerry, he has thrown each of the last three days and has felt better each time. He'll take a day off and then throw again. If there's no pain, he'll head to the minors for a rehab start.

I thought they were putting him in the pen.

I'm pretty sure I heard start. That doesn't necessarily mean he won't come out of the 'pen with the Cubs, though. It sounded like he'd only make one appearance with an affiliate.

The Trib's site says he will work out of the pen both in the minors and upon his return.

The speculation on WGN Radio was that he wouldn't spend that much time on the DL if he can start his rehab stint soon. As someone who has never come out of the bullpen as a professional, I can't see how he could spend any less than 10 days in the minors (unless they won't use him in back-to-back days at all).

Well he has to be on it until next Thursday.

Well, now we know why ARam was taken out.

From Cubs.com:

The Cubs won't know until game time Thursday whether third baseman Aramis Ramirez (sore right quad) and outfielder Jerry Hairston (bruised left calf) are available. Both are listed as day-to-day.
