Who do the Cubs send down to activate Taillon? Wesneski? He is not available for several days, so do they send him down? If not him, who?

I wouldn't be surprised if Hendricks hit the IL with a phantom injury.

Brewer or Ben Brown are options.  I know it sounds crazy to send Brown down and wouldnt be my choice but perhaps they want to keep him stretched out and roughly on schedule with Hendricks to replace him if he doesnt show signs of improvement.

How likely is it that this game is played? We've had bad storms all night/this morning in KC and looks like they will be hitting Chicago this afternoon.

Marlins are terrible, still don't know how they made the playoffs last season, definitely one of the worst playoff teams in recent memory.  Yet, the Cubs keep losing to them, no Soler, no Burger (IL), I think it's safe to say their lineup has not improved.

I'd expect Wesneski or Brown down.  Probably Wesneski because even after yesterday the bullpen is still pretty shredded.  But Brown is going to go down at some point to manage his innings and now with Taillon back wouldn't be the worst time.

I think they will (and should) give Hendricks that Sunday start against the Marlins as a springboard to get back into a good place, and if Sunday goes poorly Kyle seems very unlikely to still be on the active roster Tuesday.

I'll say generally this series worries me a bit.  The Marlins are playing at a 34 win pace and regression is going to kick in sooner or later.  I just hope it waits for Monday.

I was actually wondering this yesterday...it felt like maybe a one day call up and then a send down for an arm they could use over the next few days.

Honestly, that is what I would like to see. Hate to send Hayden back after how good he was. But he is down for 4 days now. I doubt they send Brewer back ahead of him. At least Brewer is an available arm. And hate to see Brown go down. Hendricks injured would be the move I would like best. But not sure that happens.

The Marlins lineup has been terrible, something like a 65 wRC+... and that's before they started losing guys.

Miami basically lucked its way into October last year. They had a negative run differential.

Weather Channel has it being mostly dry until 5-6 so we should be fine.  Might drizzle throughout the game but much more playable than the games last homestand.

Didn’t he throw like 40 pitches? I don’t think that would hold him for 4 days. But Wesneski is probably the most likely to be sent down, but much prefer Hendricks being sent out.

Figures, we got some amazing weather in Chicago while the Cubs were out of town, and now the Cubs are back and its back in the 50s and raining again

Puk has a WHiP of 2.4. I'm fully prepared for him to mystify the Cubs for 6 innings.

While the Marlins get a run in some bizarre way probably involving the ball not getting out of the infield.

Don’t they play a night game? Isn’t that when weather will be bad?

Huh, I had in my head it was a 1:20.  Yeah this looks pretty dicey then

That makes sense. I was going to say, this storm has produced a ton of rain/high winds while covering northern MO and basically all of Iowa. Looks to be reaching Chicago by 6ish. So unless it dissipates or slides just north, we might not be playing ball tonight.

Finally a game that is a perfect start time that does not affect my work or sleep and it might get rained out lol

I was just thinking about the fact that so far only 9 of our 18 games have been played at what I'd consider a reasonable time.  The rest of the games have either been played during work hours or late west coast start times.

Luckily 11 of our next 13 are being played at watchable times.

I love the workday games.  I throw it on in a browser window with headphones on and actually usually get a lot accomplished.

Please don't sleep walk against a bad team after exceeding expectations against that brutal start.

Getting swept in Miami, losing all by a run was super annoying, Marlins were an unsustainable 33-14 in 1-run games last year.  They were baseball' version of the 2022-23 Vikings.
