Guessing he probably gets one more inning. Or maybe 2 if they want to preserve the bullpen for once

The more I think about it, the more I want to choose a pen guy to throw 3-4 innings each game, and not do the multiple one inning thing.   The more guys used, the more chance of one or more of them being off.  I'm not worried if that one pitcher is down for 3-4 days.  Just keep rotating multiple inning guys every game.

Blah, it almost certainly won't matter but always hate when the Cubs cant bringing a runner home from 3rd with less than 2 outs.

Can’t wait to see how the bullpen blows this one.

Not today..

This is exactly the game they needed to start this weekend off

wcww,  i didn't understand keeping Wisdom in to replace Madrigal glove? Rather peculiar thought process

Probably preferred defense in outfield with the big lead and continuing to get Wisdom AB

have a feeling Brewer is on his way back to Iowa tonight.  Not necessarily because he did terrible but with the DH tomorrow they gave him the extra inning because they likely didn't expect him to be involved tomorrow.

Maybe I'm wrong because I'm not even sure who they'd call up since Palencia, Little and Cuas I don't think can be called up unless there's an injury, which just leaves Arias on the 40, who is currently in AA

They'll get the extra arm tomorrow, presumably Wesneski.  That means even with Brewer and Thompson down you have 4 guys you can count on for 1 inning(Alzolay, Leiter, Neris, Almonte), and three more you could get 2 or even 3 from(Smyly, Brown, Wesneski), and everyone has 3 days rest except for Smyly who has 2.  That's 10 pen innings for a Shota and Assad start, plus they could potentially double dip or use Thompson in a more dire situation. Given they can't bring back any of the other reasonable options, I'm guessing Brewer is safe for now.

They can bring up any of them plus Wesneski as the 27th man tomorrow, but that doesn't get Brewer back to Iowa.

Oh yeah good point.  But he can only be used in 1 game right (not that it matters that much)

Good call, completely forgot about the 27th man rule

I don't think he's on the 40 man since he signed a minor league deal.  Plus I don't think he's reported anywhere yet.

edit: Nevermind, he's on Iowa's roster but don't think he's appeared in a game yet

Somewhere in Iowa trying to hit the broad side of a barn with his pitches.

Can't ask for much more than that from Taillon. Sure, it was the softest of landings, but he cruised. First pitch strike in 17 of 18 ABs, no walks.

I wish every player coming off a rough stretch or an IL stint could come back and face the 2024 Marlins.

The only other team I'd want to warm a pitcher up against would be the 2024 White Sox.

I should go back and check but my record starting game threads this season is absurd.

Careful, word is going to travel over to the Brewer board
