Wisdom is in the house....

Gonna need to make 2 roster moves for Wisdom and Taillon

So hoping one of them is putting Hendricks on IL

Mastrobuoni and Hendricks and this team is already better just by subtracting those two

Looks like there is one big cell and then it will be over. I'm not sure how fast it is moving though. if it stalls out it could be bad

Not the worst outcome for the team if they don’t play

Eh, it just delays the pen use problem by a day or two because they'll play a DH at some point this weekend I'd guess.

Double dip Sunday with an off day Monday

Miami is in Atlanta on Monday. If they play a double header, which they will if they don’t play today, it will be either Friday or a day night DH on Saturday.

I believe before the game starts the home team makes the decision on if they play or not. Once the game starts it is up to the umpires and mlb. Maybe Rogers knows the Cubs don’t plan on getting this one in.

Officially Banged.  Curious if we still get word on roster move(s) today or if that waits for tomorrow now

I'm still not sure what the position player is, but I imagine we'll know since the departing player probably isn't staying in Chicago? On the pitching side though, in theory they could push Taillon one more day to Saturday and let him be the 27th man so there's no need to remove a bullpen arm until his next start, which in theory could be pushed all the way to the Boston series if you let Brown start one of the Houston games.

EDIT:  You could also start Brown on Sunday, that would be 5 days rest and give Hendricks 2 extra days to rest/work out whatever he's dealing with.  That would remove Brown as a long man this weekend and make the DH more risky, especially for Taillon's first start.  Maybe you decide after seeing how much the pen gets used tomorrow if you keep Shota on schedule.

There’s still that 7 inning rule right? Should help the bullpen a bit

You're thinking of the minor leagues, who play 7 inning games for DH's.  Still 9 innings at the big league level, but both teams get an extra roster spot to call up a pitcher.

Pretty sure that was only the COVID season and thank god

edit: nevermind it was also 2021.  Stupid rule though

Actually waiting until Saturday to activate Taillon might be a good move. As you said he can be the 27th man that day. Might save Wesneski if they do that. Maybe Brewer goes back down instead of Wesneski or Brown, on Sunday..

That’s good. Better to postpone before the scheduled start time and not make everyone wait for 4 hours before postponing it lol.

My guess is it's one of Brown/Wesneski heading out.  So Taillon probably starts tomorrow but that guy that's heading out hangs out to be the 27th man on Saturday?  I don't think callups for DH's count against the 5 time callup limit.

But the good news is there's a bunch of other ways to play it, such as what you laid out.  This rainout combined with Wesneski's hero outing yesterday combined with Taillon’s return very quickly alleviates the precarious situation the bullpen was in.  Yeah the doubleheader on Saturday won't help but overall this was really fortuitous timing for this.

1. Come on Jed, where's your sense of adventure

2. The bench is now 4 RHH(Amaya/Gomes, Canario, Madrigal, Wisdom/Cooper) most days.  Yes, there aren't many starters you'd want to pinch hit for with a LHH(basically just a C that you replace afterward with the backup), but I still find this odd.  There's not so many PAs available for RHH bench players as is, why not keep the guy who hits LHH, is your best pinch runner, and can fake it basically anywhere defensively?

I hope this means Canario gets most starts in the outfield with Tauchman mainly on the bench as a left handed pinch hitter. DH is either Cooper, Wisdom or Morel(when Madrigal plays 3rd). Give Canario at least a week of starts and see what he can do.

Canario can hit against LHP. But I'd rather let Tauchmann hit against RHP. Canario just isn't very exciting as a primary OF'er. And I say this as someone who no one would classify as "president of the Tacuhamnn fan club".

Wesneski down. Mastro down.

Wisdom/Taillon up.

Rotation will be:

Friday: Taillon

Sat: Assad and Imanaga (order TBA)

Sun: Hendricks

Works for me. Wesneski’s reward for pitching 4 innings is being sent down. Even if he never does leave Chicago and gets called up again for Saturday he still loses a few days of major league pay, right?

I get it. But I would still rather see Canario and let Tauchman be the lefty bat off the bench. They have none when he plays. Too bad PCA has sucked. This would have been a perfect time for him instead of Canario.
