And no one said otherwise. We’re discussing if it makes more sense to cancel a game with a large scoring deficit, or to try and play it later. Following so far? Either way, common sense would dictate the latter option due to the score. You proceeded to tell everyone who posted anything here that the game is being cancelled. You don’t know that. You have no source. No inside knowledge of any kind and are, at best, rolling the dice on a 50% outcome so you can puff out your chest and say “see, I told you” if they cancel the game. That’s a very weird way to spend a Sunday, but you do you.

I said it it rained long enough, the field would be tough to play on. That was based on a 6PM time I got for the rain stopping. You suggested it would be common sense to continue the game because the Cubs were winning by a large margin. I disagreed with that. I think the common sense that would be used would be based on players safely. Not the score of the game. Now, if they can get the field in playing shape, they will play. That is all that should go into the decision, IMO. Not the score. I am fine if you don’t agree. Just not fine with you coming at me if I don’t agree with you.

Again, I had no idea you needed me to specify that I didn’t want players hurt. Why would anyone need me to write that out when it’s so obvious? Either way, let’s just agree to disagree and watch the rest of the game that has absolutely no chance of being played today.

Couldn’t help yourself. Has to throw one more comment. For the record I am glad they are going to play on. I am glad my weather app was wrong. But i am a bit concerned about 5 innings from the pen. Not so much them holding the lead. Just being used. Not a great way to start a west coast trip.

It is what it is.  I’m not sure what you prefer, the game to be called and restarted or to be finished and tax the pen. It’s just the reality of the situation. The Cubs have an off day Thursday and they are restarting with a 6 run lead and 2 on and 1 out so ideally they can manage this without having to burn the heart of the pen. It’s the dodgers though so we’ll see

Not a question of what I prefer. Obviously with a 6 run lead, even against the Dodgers you have to like the Cubs chances. Just saying it sucks to have to tax the pen so much in this one. A game that if it didn’t rain the Cubs would have won easily and most likely had a fresh pen for the trip.

It does suck that this has to happen when Imanaga was pitching really well and only at 43 pitches through 4 innings. Easily could have gone 7 today and possibly longer

It's Almonte, hopefully he can give them 2 good innings here and then they could go with Palencia for 2 and not have to tax the bullpen

Almonte threw 20 pitches yesterday, my guess is he gets to go until he gets 1 inning or maybe until the LHH at the top come around, then they'll try to get 3 innings combined from Smyly/Palencia with Neris to close it out?

That would be ideal. Could they use Palencia a few innings and send him down after being up one day? Being back a fresh arm. Not sure they can do that.

They could, but the only fresh arm that doesn't require a 40 man move is Keegan, so don't think they'll be doing that.

Good point. Guess it is what it is. Hope Assad gives them a longer start.

Almonte and Leiter didn't have to stress to get through their inning, so that a good start..

Need to get through 3 more..

I'm switching to Wrestle Mania

Go cubs, finish this off

Definitely feel a lot better that since the game resumed the Cubs got another run and they’ve gotten through most of the heart of the Dodgers order once without any damage

This is true. But each pitched a second day in a row. I doubt either is available tomorrow. Seldom do pen arms work 3 days in a row.

This offense and a healthy Taillon and Steele would be quite formidable

Agreed. Busch looks like a solid bat. Morel looks good as well. And Suzuki looks like a star. And if the pitching could get healthy it looks pretty solid. And we have a few guys who might help later.

Right, just saying it was good they were able to get their inning in clean and they didn't need to bring someone in to finish...

Hopefully Palencia can finish or at least give them 1 more
