I think it's more a concern of the amount of water the field has already taken on.  The rain will stop, but can the field be made playable?

Got to hope those new drainage system does it job

Dodgers have a short flight to Minnesota for tomorrow's game. And the Cubs gain 2 hours flying across country to San Diego.  So they should really wait out a window.  My guess is Roberts/Dodger org will really push the ump crew to cancel and reachedule.

There were two rule changes I severely opposed.  They were the DH and the extra innings baserunner.  I have largely accepted the DH with a shrug and it really doesn't impact my enjoyment of the game one way or another.  Extra innings, on the other hand, is still an abomination that I will be telling my grandkids about in 30 years.

I love not seeing the pitcher swing the flyswatter.

The adoption of International rules for extra innings bites the big one.

In 30 years your grandkids will be watching robotics play mlb.

Sun is shining in north central IL at 3pm.

Maybe they should all get on buses and head to central Illinois to finish the game.

A lot of empty high school ball fields available since it's Sunday

A quick look at the schedules of both teams and it looks like there are only a few options if this game does, indeed, get replayed.

Monday, April 22 - Cubs are in between home series and LA finishes a home series the day before and start a series in WDC on Tuesday, April 23. I don't think they'd reschedule this quickly.

Monday, June 3 - Cubs are in between home series and LA finishes a home series the day before and start a series in Pittsburgh on Tuesday, June 4.

Thursday, September 12 - both teams finish their series against each other in LA on the previous day and have this day off.  Would take away HFA (obviously) for the Cubs.

I am sure they can figure something out. But the fact is the Cubs are losing out on a game they probably had a 95% chance of winning if there wasn’t bad weather. And that sucks.

AccuWeather does not appear to share that confidence.

That doesn’t surprise me. Last week I checked my phone before walking the dog and the radar was empty. Before we got outside it started pouring 😂

My phone shows it clearing up by 4:30-5:00 as well. Let’s hope they use common sense and wait it out.

Why is it common sense to wait it out? Even if it doesn’t end at 5, that means it remained for 4 hours. Players getting injured on an extremely wet field has to  be considered too. Sure, as a Cubs fan I hope they do finish it. But the decision will be made based on what is best for baseball, not just the Cubs. That field was a mess before they brought the tarp out.

Because there’s a large difference in the score? Tie game fine. But when a team is up 6 you don’t scrap the entire game. That’s ridiculous. Not just as a cubs fan. If the opposite were true I’d not want that mulligan for the cubs either.

Honestly, then change the rule.  If you are going to play a game in potentially unsafe conditions because of the score, then maybe MLB should think about what is causing them to consider that.  Simply resume the game where it left off and this is a non-issue.

100% agree with this. Again, this isn’t a cub fan thing either. I just think this game is deep enough in where it’s silly to completely scrap it.

Even sillier to risk injury to players because of a field that is soaked. I get your point in the score, but that is just a tough break for the Cubs.

Not sure when I indicated to send them out in poor conditions. They’ll obviously be assessing that. But you seem to want to play weather man in this thread so let’s send it over to you and you can continue to tell us what works best for all parties involved.

Well you did suggest common sense when you said they should resume. Wouldn’t that commoon sense you are referring to also be used when considering what the field would look like after 4 to 5 hours of rain? Just because I don’t agree with you doesn’t mean you have to be a dick.
