Must be an incredibly weak qb class if that’s true

Ok. He has all of the tools to be a good NFL QB. Size, athleticism, accuracy, results. Right now he's probably a top 25-ish prospect.

Off the top of my head, Shedeur Sanders and Riley Leonard will likely be ranked above JJ in next years draft.

Quinn Ewers and Carson Beck will be up there as well. Then if Jalen Milroe and Drew Allar can take steps forward, they'll be up there.

The more I think about it, the more I'm like "horsefeathers it, draft Caleb Williams and hope and expect greatness"

I guarantee if thats what they do, in 5 months, Bears fandom will be fine and chill and excited and stop gnashing their teeth so much. It sucks what's gone on with Fields, but the roster is moving in the right direction and I think Williams is a horsefeathers bad ass prospect. Roll them dice.

I watched this video and want Williams now.

When he does the Maye video I'll probably want him, lol

if Milroe can learn to throw the ball, he's going to be a top QB. But I don't think it's going to happen. Alabama has really good coaches and he didn't progress at all during the year. If it were 30 years ago and they were still running the wishbone option, he'd be devastating at the college level.

I have seen a few articles mention the possibility of Caleb Williams entering the supplemental draft, while also indicating that it is extremely unlikely.

Can anyone explain the downside of a player choosing to enter the supplemental draft?  I would assume there must be a big one since nobody ever does it.  Why would a player want to or not enter the supplemental draft, and why is it even an option?

The NFL has to approve of any players entering it and I don't think Williams' situation would allow him to be in this. If a team picks Williams or anyone else in the first round of the supplemental draft, they will lose their first round pick in the next season's draft.

So it has to be justified somehow, more than "I don't want to play for the team that might draft me." I'm not clear what a valid reason would even be.

From what I can tell, it is normally for academic reasons or if a player got in trouble during the college season

Basically for players who lose their eligibility for whatever reason.

An example is Terrelle Pryor who was planning to return to OSU but was suspended for the first 5 games of the season due to tattoo gate at OSU.  Instead in the summer he petitioned the NFL to let him enter the supplemental draft and they approved it.

Exactly. Caleb won’t be eligible for the supplemental.

Where would Fields be in this draft if he came out this year? 5th best QB?

Sounds about right. Also, isnt today the deadline for Caleb to declare for the draft? I know the Bears are QB hell but this is probably one of the best situations to be drafted #1 in. The roster isn't complete non talent.

Someone tweeted yesterday that he has hired an agent and will be declaring today.

Without knowing what we already know about him at the NFL level? I'd say QB2 or QB3, depending on how you feel about Maye. I probably like Maye more as a prospect, but I'd be more apt to keep Fields if the Bears had pick 2, for example. But I thought he was a clear QB2 in 2021 and he went 4th (of course, 2 ahead of him are terrible so he should have been QB2).

The Bears haven’t drafted and developed a QB since Sid Luckman though

So what, who cares

People keep saying that as if it's been the same organization all those years. It's been dozens of different GMs and front offices. We don't even have our offensive staff yet (god willing that gets sorted out soon)

I mean, maybe you can believe there's some sort of metaphysical force keeping the Bears from developing a QB. I don't believe that. If I did, I probably would just give up being a Bears fan.

I hardly believe Caleb Williams cares that the Bears fucked up the QB position in 1987 or whatever, or that they failed to develop Rex Grossman or failed to see the promise in Kyle Orton. I would guess the history with Justin Fields bears some weight.

Who they sign as OC and QB coordinator would matter quite a bit more than anything else. And one also has to factor in the positive possibility that if Williams is even half-way decent he wins Chicago's loyalty for the rest of his life.

All this nonsense about the Bears "ruining" QB's is just that, the Bears didn't coach all Fields flaws.  All they can be accused of is drafting highly flawed QB's, Fields, should he traded, will prove this point. I'm rooting for Justin but, wherever he ends up, the struggle will continue.

If Williams has any confidence and balls at all, he'll want to be a Bear to throw all this horsefeathers back in the faces of the critics.
