I don't necessarily disagree, but it's too soon in the season to pull the plug on Fields. At this point, I don't see much hope in him ever amounting to anything with the Bears or probably any other team. He's defeated, you can read it in his body language and hear it in his voice. He doesn't have a clue how to make things better so he's reaching back to OSU days.

But, they cannot bench him this soon. If they're 0-6 or beyond I could see it happening.

Maybe they keep it close enough in KC. But, Denver coming into town next week and it's highly likely they too will be 0-3. Pooping the bed against Denver at home with the boo birds out in full force (regardless of who is to blame for the offense) might force a change sooner.

This constant talk of Fields and footwork has me focusing, probably too much, on this aspect of quarterbacking.  On the surface, it appears Bagent' footwork and timing are superior to Fields.  Although, once Bagent' in a real NFL game, I do not know how that translates.  But, these QB gurus keep harping on this part of Fields' game.

That's not his job, Getsy should know how to use the things he does best.  Really, Getsy should be terminated this instance.

Also, sure would help if Garret Wilson, JSN and Paris Johnson Jr. hell, Chris Olave as well, came with him.

Imagine if you just woke up and this was the first thing you read today as a Bears fan.

First thing I saw when I woke up was Rappaport's "FBI did not raid Halas Hall" tweet and I thought "what in the actually f**k?" I caught up with all the noise yesterday.

I wondering if we are witnessing another Trestman level embarrassment with the Eberflus era/error?

To me, the Peterman release is just to bump him back down to the practice squad. He's really good at holding a clipboard, and if Fields poops the bed on Sunday, they can start giving Bagent a look to see if the entire QB room needs to be blown up. Peterman has proven he'll never be anything more than an emergency replacement.

If I had to guess, management was probably not happy with Fields' original comments to the press and asked him to walk them back. If Fields continues to flounder (regardless of who is to blame), management may be forced to prove to the fanbase that Bagent is not a legit replacement candidate. A blowout in KC might be the perfect place to stick Bagent out there to sink or swim.

I'd guess Bagent has less than a 20% chance of being a good NFL QB, but he did show magnificent poise in the pocket, progressed through his reads and had pretty good accuracy in completing passes, moving the ball and putting points on the board, although it was mostly  against 3rd stringers.

Nope, Peterman is back on the whole ass active roster. Not a PS shuffling thing. Does not appear to have anything to do with Bagent other than you don't want to expose him to waivers.

Theres probably a procedural reason for the move, but I can't figure out what. As far as I can see they stayed 53 man nuetral even without cutting him. But maybe there's a weird timing thing with the IR designation for Jones.

Gawd, I want Bagent to fail just so the meatballs shut up about him. Good chance Dever and the Bears are both 0-3, let Fields play and if he does poorly let it all burn down.

Very weird. Weirder yet is that they feel like either QB needs to be protected from waivers.

I mean they probably don't need to worry about Bagent on waivers, but given Peterman is a vested vet, they definitely don't.  So might as well take the cautious route. So Peterman will be the sacrificial roster shuffle guy (until after the trade deadline - then everyone is subject to waivers)

Yea the Bagent stuff is dumb.  Maybe there's a 5% he'll make it as a long term NFLer, with a 10% of that 5% chance it's as a starter.  But I'm very confident the only way that has a chance of hitting that high end is spending the entirety of 2023 as emergency QB only.  Maybe by 2024 he can have a serious look as the #2, but he's a rookie from a D2 school.  Everything is just about him watching and learning right now and getting reps in practice.

not sure who their backup is, but as with most NFL teams, he's probably not that good, so if Young doesn't play, that's good for the Bears

Isn't it Andy Dalton?

I actually watched the whole QB School video of the Bucs game and there are definitely open receivers at the top of the drop. Snap, Drop, Read, Throw gets a lot more points than what Fields did last week. Insert your favorite nameless/faceless QB who can just operate, like an Andy Dalton type and it's hard to imagine it not being better than what Fields has been doing. Bagent just sounds more exciting than Peterman. What do they say, the backup QB is the most popular guy in the city?

Hopefully "F-It" Fields gripping it and ripping it makes more plays in the passing game. They're there to be had. One of the sacks he took last week showed both Tampa LBs just hanging out spying him with a four man rush. Five receivers were out in the patterns, seems impossible that no one was open enough to throw it to, but it should be a massive advantage to the passing game to have them spying like that.

Knowing this line with their favorite LT he will have plenty of opportunities to take off and run like hell. The one thing he can't do is stand in the pocket for more than a couple beats. Make the drop, trust your receivers, throw it and if it's not there scramble.

It will be fun to see what happens, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

assuming the backup sucks (and I'm pretty sure Jumbo is right and it's Andy Dalton - who sucks) the Panthers are more likely to lose and thus improves that draft pick... it's a reach for something positive in a really ugly Bears week

I think a mediocre veteran is more likely to win in the short term than an overwhelmed rookie.
