The Cubs held a 3+ run lead from the bottom of the 1st inning until the bottom of the 9th and I was sweating the entire time.

Cubs win!

Beating up on bad teams and teams with horrible starting pitching for 3 weeks was fun, but the Braves aren’t in the same league with the Cubs. I had a feeling we were going to humble them real quick. Our offense rakes 1-9 and when they really turn it on, my god they are unstoppable.

Decent job by all the pitchers today besides Palancio, and awesome job by the bats to get 8 on the board.

Win the series tomorrow and a needed day off

Flipped to the Marlins vs. Rangers game.

The Texas stadium is so horrible. I can't believe this is what they designed to replace the Ballpark at Arlington

Thank God is over

Braves are just scary.

Cubs have no relievers available for tomorrow

Yeah and while Steele is great and I'm more than happy to have him on the bump tomorrow, he's not really a guy you can hope goes 7+ innings to save the pen.  I believe he's only gone more than 6.1 IP twice this year.

So glad we pulled that one out.  If we can pull off a series win with Steele on the mound tomorrow, that's huge.  Gotta send someone, maybe a couple guys, down to get some fresh arms int he pen.  Wish Boxberger and/or Hughes was ready to return

I bet they'll try to avoid Merryweather if at all possible, but there's no one in the pen who has thrown consecutive days so they're in a pretty normal spot for as many consecutive games as they've had.  Plus a roster move is always a possibility.

What off day? Don’t they play Monday?

I wouldn’t mind seeing Kay, Palancia and Assad sent down. Assad only because he threw a lot of pitches today. They need arms.

Yes. Their next day off is Thursday, 8/10. They then have Monday and Thursday off the following week

That is what I thought.

Side effect of all this winning lately: The Cubs have now caught the Diamondbacks and are within 1 game of the Marlins  and 1.5 back of the Reds in the Wild Card race.

Braves lineup is almost the exact same as last year's except swapping William Contreras with Murphy and Dansby with Arcia.  The lineup was already very good, but almost every player in the lineup is having a significantly better season this year than last year.

OPS change from 2022 to 2023

Matt Olson:  +.164

Ozzie Albies: +.114

Orlando Arcia: +.065

Austin Riley: +.035

Eddie Rosario: +.165

Michael Harris: -.058

Ronald Acuna Jr: +.244

Marcell Ozuna: +.094

So 8 of their 9 regulars have increased their OPS, 6 of them pretty significantly.  Like what the horsefeathers is going on over in suburban Atlanta for almost literally every single player to be hitting significantly better than last year?  Are they stealing signs or some horsefeathers?

Watching the Cubs get a big win over the best team in baseball to move within 2 games of first and 1.5 of a wild card spot, all I can think is how there's probably some random web site out there about to do a farm system ranking and we might be 6th instead of 5th. because we didn't sell. Was it really worth it?

7.5 behind the Dodgers for a bye

Ohtani is going to cite the Cubs not having enough 40+ FV prospects as his main reason for turning down the Cubs offer this offseason.

3 run hr by the Reds makes it 6-3, they're back in it.

The Reds have more errors (4) than hits (3).

I hope the Cubs broke the Reds.
