Both guys make sense. Potentially the best available free agents at their position. 27 years old or younger when the season starts. Tackle is one of the toughest positions to fill. The draft is deep for many of the other holes the Bears need to fill. I think they end up filling two spots on the Oline via free agency and then get s guard or center with one of their early picks to finish off the line.

If they go that route, someone like Bijan Robinson could actually be in play at #9. That would surprise me though. I think Poles will be very busy in free agency. He’d probably going to have the benefit of saving some of that cap money for those later roster cuts, also.

I liked Gooney’s reference to how valuable that 9th pick will be with 4 QBs likely to get picked ahead of that pick. Makes it more like a 5th overall selection that we traded for.

Wonder if Indy is worrying whether they end up with sloppy 4ths if someone offers AZ a haul for their 3rd pick.

Yea, Idk if I'd pit McGlinchy against Brown, I'd love to see them sign both

Is it too much to hope for to think Carolina could be bad enough in 2023 that their pick lands is Marvin Harrison Jr? Their division is such trash that I fear they stumble their way to 6 or 7 wins

I still can't get over how great this trade seems. Only went down to 9, so there could still be a premium prospect or two on the board. Got their 1 next year - which could be pretty darn good considering their best non-lineman offensive player might just be their rookie QB, whoever that ends up being. Got 2 2nd rounders, and oh yeah - a guy who will immediately be our #1 WR and whose numbers (with trash QBs) would put him as the top WR in Bears history in terms of receiving yards.

It could easily be bad enough - depending on who they draft at 1. Their QB is either going to be a rookie with no weapons (seriously, their best WR is probably Laviska Shenault, who iirc they were offering around, and their starting RB right now is probably Chuba Hubbard. OL is decent and D should be solid, but they will likely struggle to score points.

Laviska was a Jag, who had him on the market. The Panthers traded for him last year. But yeah, he's basically his game is what we can hope Velus Jones becomes. I'd say Terrace Marshall is their best WR. He didn't have great numbers, but did get 17.4 yards per catch. He was Part 3 of that LSU team with Jefferson and Chase, so I think they have high hopes for him, but he hasn't quite put it together yet. He was probably most hurt by the QB issues there.

Their defense though, while I can see the potential for it to be solid, they were below average in all phases last year. They were also wildly inconsistent. Gave up 3 points to Tampa, but they followed with 37 allowed to Atlanta. Two weeks later only allowed 15 the 2nd time vs Atlanta. Then they gave up 30 to the same Tampa team they shut down earlier.

My hope is that a QB slips to 9 and the Bears and Titans swap 1st and 2nd rounders.

They kind of have to sign multiple OL's, don't know if it'll be McGlinchy and Brown but, I look for Poles to sign 2 possibly 3.

I can’t help but wonder if trading Claypool is back on the table. The lack of WR available might push up his value, though not to the bears 2nd that they traded for him. Picking up Moore obviously changes the receiver room, and if JSN was the pick I could see Claypool being expendable for a second rounder.

Maybe it’s not realistic or just a terrible idea, but it keeps coming to mind.

I'd doubt they'd get a 2nd, maybe 5th or 6th

I've been wondering that myself. I always thought DJ Moore was more of a slot guy, but he's played more outside than both Claypool and Mooney (percentage wise) in their careers. So, the Bears still kinda need a slot guy, unless they throw Mooney there the majority of the time. It may be a wait and see approach to see who they can get in the draft, but I don't imagine Claypool has more value than a 4th and 6th or something like that. Maybe a 3rd if a team gets desperate from missing out in both free agency and the draft. IDK who else was interested last year besides the Packers, and I don't think that trade's gonna happen. Ironically enough, the team that may have the biggest need and in the worst position in FA and the draft to add a WR is now Carolina.

Why are we wanting to trade Claypool? Keep him and have a 800 yd receiver as a third option.

This. It's ok to have the tiniest bit of depth at an important position. I hope we draft another WR in the first few rounds, too.

I think I'd like to see Getsy test the logical. Constraints of moving guys around between X, Z and slot. Just do different things with each guy depending in their strengths.

For whatever it's worth, that 2nd Tampa game featured both their starting CBs being out with injuries and Tampa scored 3 TDs by Brady just chucking up long balls to Mike Evans knowing the #3 CB couldn't beat him for the ball.

But yes, it's very feasible that the Panthers might suck butt next year.

It was mainly a curiousity on my part, I don't expect the team to trade him as they likely won't get the same high 2nd that they gave up to get him.

The main reason I wondered about it is that Mooney and Claypool are FA after this year. You can pick one or the other to extend, but I kind of like the idea of picking up JSN so that there is another fixture in the receiving room. If Claypool (who claimed he is/could be a top 3 reciever in the league) wants some stupid amount of money it ends up being a 1.5 year rental for a pretty high pick. If you could recoup some of that capital it might make sense.

I totally get being happy to have lots of receivers, especially with tools and past production.

Sign a RT in Free Agency. Draft a LT at #9.

Is Braxton Jones a LT/T only? Because if so, I think they really like him.

id rather give fields a chance to have a relatively stacked WR room for what is pretty much his make or break season. Claypool and Mooney potentially having career years with Fields would be worth the chance that they lose one of them to free agency. I’d much rather be in position to lose free agents than needing to sign a bunch of them.
