A ton of great info from Poles here, read all the way til the end. He seems convinced that he’s gonna get 1sts in 2024 and 2025 for 1.01 and that there are at least 4 teams he’s talking with. Some of this could definitely be negotiating through the media but I’m super excited to see how this plays out

That's what I want at this point. I'm taking a guess that Carolina is the team they are talking about that might be offering this year's first, second and third, next year's first, second and third and then the first in 2025. If someone is offering that, how can you say no? Hell, I'd take that without the 2024 second and third. I seriously doubt they can get that much, but it is going to be fun watching the process play out these next few months.

I'd love to know the 4 teams. I guess Carolina, Las Vegas, Indi, and the Texans.

This constant effort by the media to discredit Fields is getting out of hand, it's got to be in part, if not entirely, race related. Asking Stroud and Smith-Njigba, if Fields is just a running back, WTF? Did any potential draftees get asked these sorts of questions about Josh Allen after his first season? I'm certain Fields is letting it roll off his back, to a certain extent he has to but, I have to imagine he's infuriated with this he's just a running back BS. That horsefeathering Poles better make some moves to give Fields a chance.

Lamar Jackson got a similar treatment pre-draft

Someone said Titans a while back, I could see it

I actually think there is a large contingent of Bears reporters there for the combine. A) it's a pretty short drive and B) Bears have #1 pick so people are trying to get some intel about potential trades. I'm pretty sure all the Fields questions have been asked by Bears people.

Said this a couple days ago. I going to assume those questions about Fields were from Bears people wanting them to dunk on anyone who had that opinion.

There's some Titans whispers with Jeffery Simmons taking Titans stuff off his social media. But that could also be him upset with negotiations on a long-term deal. They also recently said they are sticking with Tannehill, who was a big cut candidate with most, if not all, of his guarantees gone. But that could be posturing as well.

If I had to guess the 4 teams, I'd say Vegas (rumors that they are out on Rodgers potentially), Carolina (huge need and motivation w/ no cap to get a vet QB), Washington (same need/motivation as Carolina w/ an otherwise loaded roster), and Indianapolis. The Colts would not give up 2 future 1s, but that part could be Poles letting it be known that he has options.

The article mentions that one of the teams is farther back in the 1st round than you would expect. Not sure how I feel about that but I'm sure the haul would be massive if we moved down that far. Without putting too much thought into it, I'm thinking Washington at 16, Tampa Bay at 19, and Baltimore at 23 seem like possibilities.

The Ravens don't have a 2nd round pick this year, so you can probably eliminate them. The Commanders and Bucs don't really have a surplus of picks in early rounds, so I don't see how they can make an attractive enough offer unless they is a player involved..someone like Godwin or McLaurin.

Another thing the article points out is that you can only trade draft picks from 2023, 2024 and 2025. On draft night you can also trade 2026 picks. None of those teams have surplus picks in the first 3 rounds of those 3 drafts so I'd say the trade would have to be like 2023 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 2024 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 2025 1st, 2nd or something crazy like that.

Crazy how right after Poles did a media round, we start getting leaks about how the price is sky-high and there's lots of pressure on buyers to close quickly.

He'll draw it out if he feels he needs to but I get the impression he really wants to close this out before FA

That caught my eye too. Tampa or Baltimore?

Panthers feel like the sweet spot though based on the majority of snippets that Poles said there and previously.

- They're far enough back that you could reasonably see netting multiple Day 2 picks this year AND multiple future firsts

- They're close enough to the top to still nab one of those "top 6-8 blue chippers"

- Poles has referenced bringing back players in addition to picks, and Carolina has a few that would make a lot of sense

- They appear to be sufficiently desperate to say horsefeathers it to cold surplus value calculations

- They also make sense in a scenario where we trade back twice

One would think before FA is ideal, that'll allow Poles to zero in on the best DL prospects to be available in round 1. To me appears FA will have more of an offensive lean whereas, the draft more of a defensive lean.

LETS GO

MEH

TBH all the options sort of blur together me but that's one I see toward the top of people's lists, and figure with Poles' KC connection and the vast resources we have its noteworthy. PFF grades in KC were good, not great and he was a lot better in Baltimore.

At the very least it gives the Bears another option to play with. He'd certainly be a solid upgrade at RT even if he isn't everyone's choice.

Based on the little bit we know from Poles quotes and his OL targets last year, he probably isn't Poles ideal OL type. That and some of the way Poles has talked about draft capital, wouldn't surprise me if he wasn't pounding the table for Brown in KC.

That said he's obviously good and would raise the floor a ton. But for how much the investment will actually be you could probably spread around the love a lot more with two holes and get most of or all of what Brown provides.

Panthers and Colts have always been the 2 that made the most sense. Colts because of their division rival being at 2 and also needing a QB. Panthers because they are otherwise ready to compete IMO. Both teams have tried the vet QB route. Colts famously with Rivers, Ryan and Wentz. Carolina with Darnold, Mayfield and one point brought back the corpse of Cam Newton.

But Carolina wins that division if they get good QB play. Carr is in NOLA now, but meh. Tampa and Atlanta are in rebuild mode and need QBs. Carolina also has a pretty solid depth chart. Have a couple decent WRs. Have a solid OL. Good front 4 and back 4. Could use some LBs, a RB, maybe a TE and other depth, but they are a QB away for all intents and purposes.

Does that make you less interested in trading with them?

I assume so when you consider future picks we'd be getting in the trade.

Also, whomever he trades the #1 to will forever be compared to Poles. It will be Young (or Stroud) vs Fields. It will matter less how talented Carolina is outside of QB

The Athletic has the Bears trading down twice

Colts for #4 and #35 and 1st round 2024

And

Carolina for #9, #61, and 1st round 2024

Giving them picks, 9, 35, 53, 61, and 64 and drafting Lukas Van Ness DL, Iowa at #9

For the Bears, this would be an outstanding scenario. By trading down twice, Chicago would own five picks in the top 64 this year (Nos. 9, 35, 53, 61 and 64) plus two additional first-rounders in the 2024 NFL Draft.

The storylines for this pairing would be fun. Van Ness grew up a Bears fan, living just outside of Chicago (Barrington, Ill.), and his girlfriend is the younger sister of Bears tight end Cole Kmet. More importantly, the Iowa defensive lineman is a promising player with the traits to be a disruptive force from multiple alignments.

General manager Ryan Poles believes in building for the long term, so adding an ascending talent like Van Ness and draft capital via multiple trade downs would fit the profile.

Putting my reputation at risk here to say that Poles and Eberflus were on Pardon My Take yesterday....Spotify has time stamps, it's about a 45 minute interview. A little light on actual substance but some good stuff in there.

Van Ness would be a good pick with one of their 2nds, but at 9 I'm prolly taking the best available 3 tech, not an edge.
