Why does anyone in the Bears organization think that Nagy is going to do better developing the next QB prospect they bring in when he failed so miserably with the last prospect that he was specifically hired to develop?

Unless they can get up high enough to draft Fields, they're likely to end up with a prospect rated lower than Trubisky was when they drafted him.

Mitch was probably taken 10 picks too high, but he was still a legitimate top of the first round pick and Nagy either failed to develop him or refused to do so, depending on who you ask.

And that's the question that I think a lot of Bears fans want answered... Why does this organization think Pace and Nagy should get another shot at this?

The "refused to develop him" storyline is idiotic. No reasonable person believes that one. Trubisky sucks. The draft prognosticators rate horsefeathers QBs very high all the time.

Trubisky may suck, but he's statistically better than either of the QBs the Bears now have on their roster and is likely to sign a contract for significantly less than what the Bears are paying either Foles or Dalton this year.

Statistically better, as in, statistically indistinguishable.

Unfortunately for Dalton and Foles, they had to face good defenses last year

With Dalton or Foles you've at least a shot a real passing game, Nagy never trusted Trubisky, was never going to, I'm not saying they'll be a marked improvement. But, at least, Nagy will try run a real NFL offense with Dalton or Foles, that's something.

Andy Dalton has had literally 1 season better than Trubisky. This isn't an upgrade in any way, its a push at best. If you think this is a good thing in the idea that now Nagy will try to run his offense full speed, I think we are all about to witness how terrible his offense can actually look...full speed.

I didn't say it was good thing, just suggesting he may not be so dickless.

I'm not getting this Trubisky is/was better for the Bears than Dalton or Foles stuff. It comes down to Nagy, Trubisky was not, is not, will never be better for him, what so horsefeathering hard to understand? Regardless of what he says, your HC doesn't believe in the QB. By no means am I suggesting we'll see a marked improvement, on the contrary, I'm expecting a disaster of a season topped off by the firing of Nagy and keeping Pace.

I would bet heavily against the possibility of Pace getting to hire another head coach.

I don't remember who said it nevertheless, I'm not so certain its win or else for Pace, for Nagy yes.

I said it.

I'm not so certain they have a 1 year mandate. If they can get a guy who looks like a future QB, I could easily see them coming back next year even if they don't make the playoffs. If they are bad enough in 2021 for Nagy to get fired, Pace is out the door as well.

So do we think this is the plan?

1. Trade some or all of Robinson/Fuller/Hicks/Foles/Miller for picks and cap relief

2. Use the cap relief on a bunch of short term depth types

3. Trade up into the top 10 to nab a quarterback. Because of #1, the '21/'22 drafts shouldn't be a total disaster behind the QB

Minshew is the backup plan if the QB(s) they want are gone earlier than they are able to trade up in the draft?

I don't think that's the plan. I think they'd like to keep Arob for one...

As for Fuller/Hicks, who knows. Hicks is easier to just part with, IMO. But I'm sure a trade is a consideration for either. Personally I wouldn't rush to trade either. They have some more cap to move around if they need to. They could still play void year games with Dalton- there should be options for cap management rather than cutting those gusy now. If come June 1 they're still concerned with the future cap liabilities and there's no trade market for Hicks or Fuller, you June 1 cut them (really you don't need the June 1 aspect, but its immaterial - more about exhausting their possible trade market).

Step 1: Pay 10-13M for one of the worst QBs in the league to add to your other worse QB in the league.

Step 2: Potentially lose your probowl CB

Considering Seattle just lost Griffin, watch them nab Fuller

Not seeing Fuller as big time loss, he's on the downside of his career.

Fuller would be a very big loss if the Bears actually think they can make the playoffs. Without him, they would have to sign someone close to equal, which would cost at least $10M. Finding a way to stay under the cap with him, let him walk in FA next year gets you likely a 4th rd comp pick in 23 draft.

This is part of the problem with Pace - he signs players to contracts that they never finish. They get cut before the end of the deal and forfeit any comp picks. He has been fortunate with Hicks, Arob, and Trevathan's first contract and a few stop gap guys like Prince and the DL/SS carousel. He can't pull it off on offense, though. Taylor Gabriel, Trey Burton, renewing Massie was a mistake - should have let him walk, there are many more - not even getting into Robert Quinn. Serenity now!

Well they are at 3 comp picks the past 2 years. I'm not sure that's a valid complaint. Comp pick value is typically driven by young players on their first big contract, not established players getting a second bit deal. Obviously it can, but it's typically a lesser driver.

As to Massie, unfortunately the option year loophole was pulled out from under teams. It appears they actually had that in mind and I'm not sure they could have known that rule would change.

....and keeping Pace.

Awwwwww hellll naaawww.

This move ought to seal the deal for both these clowns. Dalton to send this era to the history books, new GM to make the right pick @ QB. That’s what needs to happen.

But, Bears so...

What will the Mitch truthers say now? There were definitely bears fans out there that were waiting for him to be a starter somewhere so he could show his struggles were nagys fault
