So many people keep saying this doesn't stop them from making a trade. I don't get how. Unless you somehow include Dalton in the trade (can you even trade a newly signed free agent?) or release him, that's a $40+m QB room. But why would Dalton even sign with the Bears if there was a realistic shot he'd be pushed aside in a week or two anyway?

I think it's a sign Russ deal is dead, perhaps because the Bears decided they had to horsefeathers or get off the pot and move to plan D. But if next week it magically reappeared, they could find a way. 40M QB room be damned.

What rookie? The Bears dont draft QBs with 1 notable exception. I doubt they use a draft pick on a 3rd round QB or something. They should but they wont

I think this is a sign they're going to trade up into the front half of the 1st for a guy. Dalton is going to be to like Mac Jones what Glennon was to Trubisky. Or what Ryan Fitzpatrick has been to like a half dozen guys.

Screw it, don't draft a QB. Bring back Trubisky on a one year deal instead.

horsefeathers it.

Bring back Trubisky, AND draft a QB and make this summer the kicker competition all over again.

But why does Dalton's presence matter in this scenario? He's not better than Foles. He's older than Foles, and no more accomplished. Unless Foles told the team he's retiring there is absolutely no point in this signing.

Oh you are preaching to the choir on this one. I like Dalton a little bit more than Foles, but only would have made this change if it was salary neutral-ish to swap them out on the roster.

YES!

Screw running back by committee, screw the college of coaches, give me quarterback by committee!

This is the fourth time this happened in a row! You can’t give up starter assets for backup quarterbacks.

Glennon

Trubisky

Foles

Dalton

Imagine the vacant stares at Halas Hall when everyone realized Andy Dalton was the best option standing.

Dalton won’t be the worst QB but the ceiling is so low...

Dalton on a one-year deal at least doesn't do any active harm to the long-term. I'll call that a win, even though dreaming about Russell was fun.

I guess that's a good way to look at it so, assuming Dalton is the starter, is he someone Nagy can "trust" enough to finally see an attempt at an NFL passing game? He doesn't seem much different from a Nick Foles.

Wilbon going off on Pace and Nagy, it has some merit but, I believe he's incorrect regarding Nagy' unwillingness to coach Trubisky. The simple fact is the NFL is too fast for Trubisky, he's mentally incapable of the type of processing that's necessary for success. No amount of coaching is ever going to fix Trubisky.

Those all seem light, trade charts be damned. I think you can probably count in dialing up the trade chart with a 10-20% premium in this market. Perhaps more for the Bears because teams are gonna know.

Say Pace manages to trade up, maybe, even to a place where Wilson or Fields might be available, do we really expect him not to horsefeathers it up again?

horsefeathers it up in the sense of paying top much or picking the wrong guy? Or both?
