Those all seem light, trade charts be damned. I think you can probably count in dialing up the trade chart with a 10-20% premium in this market. Perhaps more for the Bears because teams are gonna know.

Say Pace manages to trade up, maybe, even to a place where Wilson or Fields might be available, do we really expect him not to horsefeathers it up again?

horsefeathers it up in the sense of paying top much or picking the wrong guy? Or both?

Picking the right guy.

In the sense that most QB picks fail, yes. I the sense that I think Pace is like predetermined to pick bad QBs, nah.

Had a busy afternoon/evening haven't read the posts yet, but this is horsefeathering bad.

Ok, you couldn't get Wilson. Why then go for Dalton so quickly? Why not wait out to see what SF does with Jimmy G? See what Vegas does with Mariota. See if Minshew, Darnold, or Bridgewater come available or their prices go down in a trade. Hell, why not wait out Dalton last year if you liked him so much?

Sure they all suck, but whats the worst that could happen? Oh you miss out on a mediocre QB?. Who cares? You already have one of those. If you have to settle for a bad QB, why settle before the league year actually begins? Why settle for bad QB whos OLDER than your already bad QB? If the end game is a draft pick at QB who is a long term answer, you're likely looking at the veteran being a part-time starter anyway. Why you in a hurry for that with Foles on the roster?

And if you can't get Russ/Watson, dont have the patience for leftovers cut between now and May, and don't care about age, then get Fitzpatrick yesterday before he goes to Washington. He's been a bridge QB before, and he's at least competently terrible.

Another overpay IMO and no indication yet that this is just the market for guys like him. But in principal I like the player as a RG/RT hedge against the draft options.

Bears are going to draft an edge rusher in the 1st round

If you like Dalton now, why didn't you go get him last year? He signed to be a backup to Prescott, where there was less likely of a chance of winning the job as opposed to Trubisky. They spent a draft pick to get Foles. I just don't understand the logic. The carousel continues.

Well they obviously didn't want to wait out the market for Dalton last year. He was still a Bengal until after the draft. I did think at the time they didn't need to pull the trigger on Foles when they did.

But anyways I think you have to be careful about making direct comparisons between the market in each year.

I woke up to the depressing realization this morning that the Bears are likely going to trade a top 5 first and/or second round pick in 2022 in order to move up in the draft to select their next bust at QB.

To me, this reads like the Bears trying to save face and I do not think Trey Lance will be the answer at QB. I can see it now - Pace trades up, passes on Zach Wilson and Justin Fields for Trey Lance, Wilson ends being the best QB of this draft, Fields ends up being very good, Lance ends up being Trubisky part II. I'm really discouraged at yet another season of no offense hoping the defense will bale them out, horsefeathers this [expletive] is getting old. More and more I'm starting to believe a change in ownership is the only hope for the Bears and seeing a franchise or at, least, a really horsefeathering good QB in Chicago.

I used to hate that sports media never talked about the Bears. Even when they won, they didn't win pretty enough so it wasn't newsworthy. But maybe that's for the best, because once again the Bears are a media laughing stock. Just like they were when they traded for Foles. Just like they were after a 3-point offensive output in the playoffs Just like they were after the season ending press conference. Just like they are after the multiple primetime blowouts each season.

Yep and with an ownership that's apparently OK with being a laughing stock, guess the money must still be good. Because they sure as horsefeathers don't care about winning on the football field.

I've never thought the sports media left the Bears out of conversations. It's been the same conversation since I became a follower from another city, but it's still part of the conversation.

This is kind of a ridiculous claim. They fired a winning coach because he didn't win enough. They cleaned house on their replacement two years later when it became obvious they'd taken a huge step back. They went for stability in the aftermath then moved on to a new coach from a winning program with the expectation he'd be able to win more and they got immediate results. They took steps back but have reason to believe these guys can figure out the problems. If they don't improve they'll be replaced.

The owners obviously care about winning on the football field. They have a wonky leadership situation with the family accountant with too much input but there is nothing in the way they run this team that suggests they don't want to win.

With the way some of these rumors were swirling, that's actually less than I thought they offered. I'm guessing it would be rookie contract guys as the two starters? So two of the group:

Smith, Johnson, Nichols, Daniels, Mooney? (maybe Kmet)

That's about all you can do. That doesn't excuse everything before and since, but they did what they could on the Russ front.

Might be a bit rash and an overreaction but, its obvious Pace is terrible, nothing good or productive is going to come of this Dalton signing. By the way what are the reasons to believe these guys can figure out the problems?

There are some guys out there saying they heard 2 3rds, FWIW.

I know Russ has like $13m in dead cap space that goes away if he's traded after June 1, so maybe that is when the Bears re-engage. But I can't see how the Seahawks would be interested in making a deal after the draft as they lose an entire year of a potential rebuild. Unless theres a handshake agreement and the Bears pick who the Seahawks want them to. Or unless the Bears do end up drafting a QB that is mildly attractive to the Seahawks, making them more willing to trade with us as they'd get a potential answer at QB as part of the return.

This Dalton thing really makes me wish the team had just moved on from Pace and Nagy. They have been dead man walking since then given cap space, draft position, and everything else. Outshined said they're going to trade their 2022 high draft pick, which wouldn't surprise me. Ugh. If you just moved on already you can start the rebuild:

Franchise A-Rob and trade him or take the round 3 2022 comp pick

Trade Fuller/Hicks/whoever makes sense to build up late round picks

Sign a bunch of very good players on 1 year deals (due to suppressed FA market), setting yourself up for 2023 comp picks

Draft BPA, knowing that QB is most important position but don't overpay/reach too much

Basically act like Baltimore when it comes to the draft. Easier said than done, of course.

Step 1: Pay 10-13M for one of the worst QBs in the league to add to your other worse QB in the league.

Step 2: Potentially lose your probowl CB
