NFL perpetual 2020 regular and postseason non Bears thread

Taysom Hill OUT for the Saints today due to a sore knee. The odds that that Sean Payton calls some ridiculous flea flicker play action pass when the offense is already rolling just went down significantly.

Welp.

Same horsefeathers the Bears ran against them last week but Wims dropped. I'm so pissed off right now!

Pick up Brady, POOF instant SB contention.

Someone much smarter than me will write an article breaking down the "Belichick System" myth. This year showed us that Belichick - Brady = meh while meh team + Brady = contender

I would say it shows us that going from Jameis throwing 30 picks to a competent QB turns you into a contender.

Plus didn’t the Pats have a few key opt outs on defense this year also?

Bray and Belichick are both great. If Brady stayed but Belichick retired, NE probably misses the playoffs also this year.

I’ll give Belichick another year. But it was not good. Especially how they ended the year. I’ve got to believe he’s a good coach, I just don’t know if he could rebuild a perennial contender at this stage in his career unless he wins the QB lottery again. We’ll see. You know he’s motivated to show he can win without Brady.

Even if you operate under the assumption that Brady now is better than Belichick now, it doesn’t mean it’s always been the case. The first three Super Bowls, Brady was good, but he wasn’t yet what he’d become. They won those more with defense than offense. Brady threw at least 12 picks each of his first 6 years. He’s done it 3 times in 13 years since. Three of his lowest 5 seasons by passing yards were the first three SB years.

I could just as easily say that it’s impressive that Belichick went 7-9 with QBs who threw 10 TDs in 16 games. Jameis would have been an upgrade over Cam Newton this year. The Pats probably wouldn’t have made the playoffs with Winston but part of that was 9-7 or 10-6 wouldn’t have made it in the AFC.

I don’t mean to take away from Brady. He’s one of the best couple QBs ever. We can debate where but if he’s not on your Mount Rushmore, you’re crazy. All I meant to say was let’s not go overboard and say Brady was more responsible for the Pats dynasty than Belichick because of this year. He might be more responsible. I just don’t think this year proves it.

It was a long-winded way of saying that someone will argue whether the Belichick System was really a plug-and-play thing that could win with whoever, or if the system requires Brady to make it go

Wait are there people who were arguing that a HOF QB (underpaid for most of his time) wasn't critical to the Patriots nearly 2 decade dynasty?

There was a sentiment that you could surround Brady with anyone and win championships. The team regularly took cast-offs from other teams and day 2/3 draft picks and sustained success. I don't know if anyone argued that Brady was unimportant, but I haven't delved back into the hot take archives

So... that doesn't really disprove any Belicheck myth than? As long as it admits Belicheck's system was reliant on a HOF QB. It was still an incredibly successful system that other franchises with a HOF QB didn't get near matching.

when the Pats sign Watson, we will finally get to see his system in full effect

I always thought Hoodie made Brady more than vice versa and I’ll accept this season as a strong point against that

I felt the same and have basically given up on that line of thinking.

The fact that I had to watch the utterly toast Cam Newton play a huge role in bringing me to that conclusion makes it even more painful.

Until we get to see Brady with a truly awful coach like Matt Nagy though, we'll never get the full sample we need.

Along those lines was wondering if Nagy had Watson could we finally see the Bears with a real NFL offense? Not so certain the answer is yes.

KC was my last hope to keep GB from winning the SB, KC sans a healthy Mahomes really makes GB the favorite, by a significant amount. Hell, I'm not so certain they weren't the favorite, regardless. Don't believe the NFC Championship is going to be very close, man, I loathe the Packers, respect them as a good team, etc. But, so horsefeathering tried of Rodgers and his pisshead porn 'stache beating up on the Bears and laughing about it, some day, year, century the Bears will do something about it , I hope.

I cant think of many coaches who would have stuck with Brady his rookie year going into the Super Bowl when Bledsoe was healthy. Maybe more so now, but that was a really bold move back then that most coaches wouldnt have made.

yea but, why would Watson want to go to the Jets
he wanted the guy the jets hired as HC.

Also one or two good seasons with that team will immortalize you in ways a Philip Rivers type career for 20 years never could.

you mean putting up top 10 numbers years in a row while never getting to the Super Bowl? idk. It seems like he'd just be second fiddle to Eli Manning in that town

Also interesting about that is Jeremiah is basically the new mouthpiece of the Jets with Mehta bounced out last year. He and Douglas worked for 4-5 years together in Baltimore and he was rumored to be joining the FO when Douglas got hired until he didn't

The Saints are supposedly as much as $100 million over the cap in 2021. One or more of Kamara, Michael Thomas, Ramcyzk, and Lattimore might become available

Kamara and Ramcyk are not going anywhere. I can see Lattimore and and MT being available, along with Emmanuel Sanders, Jared Cook, Kwon Alexander, Marcus Williams, Sheldon Rankins, Janoris Jenkins, and one of Trey Hendrickson and Cam Jordan.
