I know Lance has played far fewer games than Mahomes and Allen but I thought the same thing about those two and look how they turned out. I guess if you actually have a good coaching staff and system, it matters a lot less.

(For the record, I agree with you.)

I mean, I begrudgingly hold the fact he played for NDSU against him but whatevs

It’s that he seems to get by a lot on his athleticism against slow and weak competition.

Yeah, he does. But he's playing with slower, weaker teammates than the Power 5 guys as well. Size, arm, athleticism reminds me of another FCS guy who ran around the competition from back in the day, Steve McNair.

That seems like a good comp, but he could also turn out to be Jake Locker or Ryan Tannehill. I just don’t think he’s worthy of a 1st round pick.

I mean, Tannehill's pretty good now. But I'm not saying he's going to turn out like McNair, just that he's that style of player.

Also like Zaven Collins in the back half of the first round.

Weird story... I lived/worked in a small town where the HS is a big rival of the one Collins attended. I was there from 2013-2016, but in that time, I got to see the local boys play against two guys who went/will go on to become first round draft picks. Collins, and Josh Jacobs. Collins wasn't hugely impressive (he was only a Soph. and mostly stood out playing QB) but Jacobs was in every way a man among boys on that field. He was incredible.

The warts with Locker were obvious to anyone who watched any Pac-12 football.

But again, raw's point is to get good coaching and trust the the athlete/tools is true. The NFL is more willing to run college concepts these days then they were when Locker and Vince Young came to the NFL.

While this is true, I think it's important to point out that NSDU uses more NFL concepts than most college teams. They do a lot under center and run true playaction concepts in the pass game. In comparison, Zach Wilson at BYU almost does 0 under center.

Yes, very good point.

Daniel Jeremiah put out a top 50 for the draft the other day. While I don't think he is gospel, do know he is tapped into at least one org (Jets) and is generally very well regarded in general:

https://www.nfl.com/news/daniel-jeremiah-s-top-50-2021-nfl-draft-prospect-rankings-1-0

Some surprises:

- Sewell is the *third* ranked OT

- Pitts at 3! I think he's a beast so was more pleasantly surprised than stunned

- Chase at 2!

- Wilson 4th and as his second ranked QB...I wasn't aware of the injury history including a shoulder injury

- Biiig on Toney, his 4th ranked WR and 20th overall

- Najee Harris is a monster and I kinda want the Jets to use 23 on him position be damned. He throws out Forte for a comp. He's the #2 RB behind Etienne

- I have almost no opinions on defense this year yet, would really like an outside pass rusher

I agree that Pitts is a beast. Najee Harris runs much more violently, ala Derrick Henry, than Forte ever did.

You didn't mention him, but I do not get the love for Trey Lance. He just seems like a guy.

Najee definitely more physical than Forte. I think the comp is more of a size/speed thing and the fact that Najee is a good receiver out of the backfield for that size. But he's NOT Forte as a receiver.

As for Trey Lance, I love him and completely disagree with you, LOL. I do think Fields over him is a no-brainer, but Lance has all the tools. Elite runner right now, not Lamar style, but pre-injury Cam Newton level. Big arm. I love his footwork most of the time, has inconsistencies like any other college QB. He has plays where he throws with tight window accuracy, anticipation, goes thru progressions.....admittedly few and far between, but they are there. He also seems to have the intangibles and small nuances. Great at carrying out playaction fakes and zone reads/RPOs. NDSU is basically the BAMA of FCS football, but it says a lot to me that he was trusted with that job as a 19-year old RS freshman last year. He went undefeated, with like 28 TDs and 0 INTs, and another 12 TDs rushing to go with 1000 yards.

And if guys like Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes, and Justin Herbert have taught us anything, it's to trust the tools and get a guy that can develop them.

Yea I'm warming up to Lance. Bears should consider being aggressive in moving up.

From Walter Football:

Weaknesses:

Raw

Lacks experience

Field vision

Locks on to primary read

Takes off running when first read is covered

Slow to work through progressions

Has to speed up the process

Needs to get comfortable throwing into tight windows

Sounds like Trubisky.

I'm far from a QB expert as it relates to a college player transitioning to the pros, but Lance is the qb I would like the Bears to draft. I HATE HATE HATE NDSU, but in his case I could get over it if we drafted him really fast.

I don't think they can actually make any trade right now right?

They can't be officially processed until March but they can be agreed to at any time.

Not really sure what thread this Twitter story goes in but

Holy crap! Nice story. Ricky was an interesting dude.

There is a 30 for 30, "Run Ricky Run" that details that story in depth.

I’ve never watched that one. I think I will now

I thought Super Bowl week was a “no big news/deals” period

I mean this isn’t a normal super bowl week, the Chiefs aren’t even in Tampa and there aren’t nearly as many events scheduled to turn in to content. Maybe they’re okay with trades for now since it provides something to cover.
