Apparently Giants players are PISSED that the Eagles pulled some starters and gave up on this game

They needed to figure out if Nate Sudfeld is a better backup QB option than Wentz. :hello:

The Eagles needed to see more of Hurts than the 3rd stringer. Sudfield was absolutely abysmal though. With that said, the Giants were 6-10 and have no one to blame but themselves.

I didn't like the change simply because I wanted to see a 6-10 team make the playoffs as a division champion. My dream, ruined. Thanks Doug Pederson!

Browns barely beat the Steelers backups, but make the playoffs. I don't see them beating the first-stringers next week

Wasn't it just sitting Roethlisberger? I don't know their defensive players but the offensive skill players for Pittsburgh played.

They needed to figure out if Hurts was merely backup quality or 3rd stringer. The only way to do that was to play a 3rd stringer.

TJ Watt (possible defensive MVP) and Cam Heyward (pro bowl level player) didn't play on defense.

Can someone explain why exactly this Jalen Hurts getting pulled for Sudfeld is such a big story? I mean, I get that the Giants are annoyed because they could have made the playoffs and Philly jumped up a couple spots in the draft. But with the amount of attention it’s getting, you would have thought Hurts was playing well. But he was 7-20 for 72 yards. Sudfeld is obviously worse but it’s not like Hurts was a lock to lead the Eagles to a win.

Eagles and Giants are bitter rivals. Giants needed Eagles to win to make playoffs. Eagles had a chance to win but intentionally pulled a QB and there is a good reason to believe the coach did so with the intention of losing. So, a crappy Giants team misses playoffs and in true sports fashion, people involved blame others, rather than the 10-loss team. Throw in the fact that the sports world is dormant and a hot take is the best way to gain traction right now and you have people talking about it.

I don't think it's that big of a story, as somebody who lives in Giants country but with plenty of Eagles people around, nobody gives a horsefeathers.

I think it's kind of a big deal if a team actively tried not to win a game that was winnable. On Hurts' last drive, the Eagles got the ball at the WFT 15. They got a 1st and had 1st and goal from the 5. Got 1 yard and then 3 incomplete passes by Hurts. Which means, they went on 4th down and passed up what was at that time, a game-tying FG late in the 3rd quarter. But yeah, Hurts wasn't exactly great in this game.

You can't really prove the Eagles intentionally didn't try to win this game, but FWIW, several of the Eagles players believe they didn't try to win it. But the interesting thing to me is that Carson Wentz was made inactive before the game. He has been the #2 QB since he was benched. So, it seems like either Pedersen wanted to get Sudfeld some snaps (which doesn't make sense bc Sudfeld is a FA after the season and probably not in the 2021 plans) or Pedersen/Luria wanted to lose this game if the opportunity presented itself.

The Wentz thing is definitely odd unless he was hurt and didn’t want to tell anyone. As for going for it on 4th down, aren’t the Eagles typically on the aggressive side in those situations. I’m guessing the math favors going for it from 4 yards out, especially in the 4th quarter.

I’m guessing it’s a combo of them not necessarily caring if they won (as opposed to hoping they would lose) and Hurts being awful, like you said at end with the Eagles taking the loss if the opportunity was there. If Hurts was decent and they pull him, then it’s a terrible look. I would say they probably should have just left Hurts in. He was coming off two good games and the backup is not good either so it’s different from when the Dolphins benched Tua.

I get why it’s in the news a bit, just seems like a bigger story than needs to be.

Whatever. It makes NY fans angry which is always a good thing.

Hurts was not even close to playing poorly enough to be pulled, most especially considering who his replacement is. It really didn't make any sense and looked like an intentional tank. But I did enjoy the outrage.

7-20 for 72 yards in 3 quarters is absolutely bad enough to be pulled. I know he ran for 2 TDs also but that line is horrid. Of course it’s not just Hurts’s play in a vacuum and, as you pointed out, you have to factor in the backup. If they brought Wentz in it would be a different story.

I think what raw said is right. They didn’t go into the game trying to lose but they were losing after 3 and Hurts was playing poorly so they said screw it and made the switch.

Tua horsefeathering sucks. Dolphins should take a QB with that Texans picks they get this year.

Didn’t inspire a ton of confidence with his play this year but that’s a tough position to be in. Line is still pretty poor, the receivers he had were awful (particularly with Parker injured and Williams on IR half the year), little running game, limited off season training camp, no pre-season, coming off the hip injury, etc. Most thought he’d redshirt this whole year.

I don’t think there’s any guarantee that any of these guys are better QBs outside of Lawerence. That includes Fields. Probably a better idea to take Sewell or trade down and grab Chase or Smith, plus additional picks. Take Najee/Etieene/Williams with one of the second round picks. If Tua sucks in a year or two, then you have your team built up and the cap space to add a solid veteran QB in FA.

Yeah, I’m not getting the love for Fields as a top draft pick. Sure, he had a great game against a defense whose best win was against UMiami. Just not seeing how he’s elite.

He got his ass kicked the one time he played an elite defense.

I don't see how he's not elite. If you think Cam Newton was worthy of a #1 pick (MVP season says he was before injuries), then Fields is certainly worth a top 5. Similar style player, but I think a much better, more experienced passer coming into his draft.

He's certainly got his warts, but those deep balls he was dropping into his WRs breadbasket 50 yards down field were special.

Yeah, and i was more impressed with a few of his throws to the TEs. People were critical of him not throwing the ball between the hashes very much, but he threw a few tight window throws in the middle of the field which is typically the difference between a good and a great NFL QB.

Clemson had a rough game and that secondary was definitely leaky but let's not pretend like they don't have a bunch of NFL defenders that Fields diced up.

Fields was incredibly impressive, even after he broke 329265 ribs. And I say that as someone who had questions about him coming into this season and was disappointed in his Indiana and Northwestern games.

I really do not want to like Aaron Rodgers, but he was great on LeBetard’s podcast and then this:

The fumble call the end of the game was a terrible call that benefitted the Colts. Colts still lost.

Why does Pete Carroll have the dumbest-looking mask in the world?

Alex Smith is inactive.

Who is the backup? They cut Haskins

You haven’t heard of him. If Smith were starting I think I’d pick the WFT.
