Why in the hell are the Panthers playing a competitive game? Think they’d be tanking at this point

 

Panthers really have no incentive to tank. They could take a QB, but still should be in Zach Wilson range (if he doesn't go 2). But since they don't necessarily NEED to take a QB, they won't be pressed to move up. They can sit back, take Wilson, the best lineman, any defensive position, or Kyle Pitts.

 

They had no incentive to win either. They went from drafting 3rd to 9th with that win.

Do football teams really tank though? Player careers are short and fragile, many coaches get one shot to be a HC, many FO guys this is their one chance to lead a franchise. Jets had zero incentive to win too, yet they are playing their best ball of the season right now.

Washington also really horsefeathering sucks which is part of Carolina's success today.

 

I'm somewhat ambivalent about winning the game, I don't love any of the QBs except Lawrence, who they were never getting.

- If the GIants lose, and PHI-CIN-ATL-HOU all win, the Giants at 5-11 would get the 3rd pick in the NFL draft.

- If the Giants win and WAS loses, the Giants win the NFC East at 6-10.

Three of those aren’t likely to win. Bucs get the 4 seed with a win but drop with a loss and a Rams win. Titans need a win to win the division and get a playoff spot. Ravens need a win to get in also.

 

That being said, even if you remove those three games and assume the favorites win, the fact that with one game to go the Giants could still pick as high as 6 but as low as 19 (barring a playoff win) is insane.

So Kamara can be back from Covid if the Saints playoff game is scheduled for Sunday but not it it’s Saturday. The NFL hasn’t set the schedule yet. Cue the “Goodell hates the Saints” conspiracy theories if that sucker gets set for Saturday.

FYI, the entire RB room has been ruled out tomorrow, so Ty Montgomery and a rookie practice squad guy are it against Carolina.

 

As for the Goodell talk around a Saturday or Sunday game, it is already starting here. I may have to turn off my radio next week if it’s scheduled for Saturday.

So the NFL kind of proved you don't need a bubble for the regular season... They worked around it and it worked well enough to force a full regular season through. If one of these position groups like this misses a playoff game or god forbid the Super Bowl, man there's gonna be hell from fans.

The Eagles needed to see more of Hurts than the 3rd stringer. Sudfield was absolutely abysmal though. With that said, the Giants were 6-10 and have no one to blame but themselves.
