Look I’m not going to completely give up on Mitch based on 1 game but that...was not an encouraging performance at all. Still has a shot of salvaging it for his team though

It’s been more than one game

Right but I thought he showed flashes last year and was hoping to see some sort of leap this year. There was a leap but not in the right direction

His game is flashes. He’s talented as hell but really dumb and just bad. He’s a top draft pick with an amazing defense and plenty of offensive talent around him, and yet we’re talking about the same issues three years in.

At least they won’t have to lock him into a huge extension.

Hell on the last series he had a massive gain up the seam in the middle wide open, I'd say there's at least 30 other QB's who hit that pass.

Yeah, it’s hard to have much positivity regarding Mitch., right now. I want the kid to be good, but tonight was very discouraging.

I'm not gonna be disappointed if Mitch turns out to be a wasted pick. That said, you all are putting too much stock in the first game of the season. Neither offense looked very good. Shock since neither offense played much (if at all) in the preseason. It showed. Sure the defenses dominated, and I think there's gonna be plenty of spotty, inconsistent play the first two weeks all across the NFL. How many wanted Nagy fired after game 1 last year?

I think the biggest difference for the Bears between this year and last will be that they play a first place schedule. Not a lot "gimmes" on that schedule.

I said something similar after week 1 last year, but last year I actually believed it.

I expected there to be some rust to knock off but my gawd the offense was 'I'd rather stick red hot pokers into my eyeballs than watch this' bad.

Nagy really learned nothing from the playoff loss

13 carries by RBs in that game, 43 pass attempts

11/45 tonight

Cohen 1 carry TOTAL (it wasn't tonight)

Oh we are just pinching ourselves with this David Montgomery kid according to Nagy, and he gave him 6 horsefeathering carries

And his stupid ass decision to forego the long FG attempt earlier only to go for it on 4th and with a horrible playcall to boot

Hes really been outcoached horribly in his last 2 games, and exposed to a significant extent IMO

The offense looked so pedestrian. I felt like the offensive pass interference by Gabriel was [expletive], but as a whole Nagy and the O never got horsefeathers going. How much of it was lack of preseason reps?

The next 4 games will be tough

Sucks, because we're going to have to start over @ QB *again*

But yeah, Mitch is a huge part of the problem. There's no scenario I can see where he suddenly develops consistently good decision-making and hits on all the throws he needs to. Looks great on a few plays, but it's just not enough to be a good QB in this league. Most guys can show "flashes." So what? That's not the definition of a great QB and there's no reason to believe it will progress further than that.

Combine that with Nagy's laughable playcalling in key situations, and you've got last night's joke of a performance. I know the defensive players won't say anything, and they shouldn't, but wasting great performances like that has to be frustrating as heck.

Nagy horsefeathering sucks at calling plays. Forget “Be You” and be someone that doesn’t have their head stuck deep up their horsefeathers.

LOL. What if "you" sucks.

The freaking dive play to Cordarelle Patterson was really dumb.

The play calling as a whole was not good. But let's not forget that the concept behind the RPO is the QB is the one choosing whether the play is a run or pass.

That was probably one of the worst offensive gameplans I've seen in an NFL game. It was completely incoherent from a play calling and personal perspective. I think probably 95% of the fanbase knows what Trubisky is at this point, yet Nagy drops him back 53 times in a 1 score game? He hands the ball off 12 times. He goes for it on 4th and 10 like some kid playing Madden on tilt. Didn't attack the middle of the field to exploit Green Bay's weak middle linebacker crew. The offense was completely unprepared. They took two delay of game penalties on the same drive. Starts the game off with that stupid T formation horsefeathers which predictably ends in a fumble. The dive up the middle with Patterson was so stupid that I just sat there with my mouth hanging open. Literally every person watching the game knew that was going to be the play so I'm not surprised GB was all over it. I'm probably overreacting, but I'm shook but what I saw from him last night. Trestman's offense looked promising his first season too, I'm just saying.

My hope that Trubisky turns into anything meaningful died last night. The only thing I could cling to was that he made some sort of leap over the offseason but he came out looking the same, if not worse. He looks overmatched mentally to me. Which makes it even more baffling that Nagy put the entire game plan on his decision making.

The most frustrating thing to me is that I feel like they've done a really good job with this rebuild, but they picked the wrong QB and basically nothing else matters.

Starting to re-watch the offensive plays this morning and my early hot take is that Nagy being outcoached is more to blame than Mitch last night. The line also gets equal blame, a couple times already that Pack got a good rush with no blitzes and I already know they were penalized a bunch later in the game.

One play that really stuck out early was his first real throw (following a batted pass and a scramble) . A designed roll out boot with 7 man protection and GB drops 7 in coverage. So GB has 2 in coverage to every 1 Chicago receiver on the short side of the field. And the outside rusher still got a hand in Mitch's face. Mitch way over throws Tarik on the boundary. He really only makes that one read, but it was really a 1 or 2 read play in which case, "throw where no one can get it" was the best decision. But that was only after being out schemed and outplayed on the line.

I suspect this is what I'll find the rest of the game, that Mitch made a few bad mistakes, but penalties, line/TE play and play calling limit him before he even can even try and get going.

We really learned anything new about Mitch last night. He'll have some baller games again this year, but you just have to keep the perspective that he's only ever gonna do that within the system and never going to lift up poor play (and definitely not poor play calling). He's not gonna be a Rodgers or even a Rivers or Ryan, but Nagy has to figure out how to make him a Flacco or Eli Manning so this defense isn't wasted.
