Good, now send Almora and Descalso away next. Because for pure baseball reasons they’re worse than Russell. We also likely save some money on this move, fwiw. Russell had a days on active roster bonuses.

It's probably part that but we're still not very deep in the outfield and I'm guessing they don't want to eat Descalso or Brach's money until they have to - although with the deadline coming, you have to assume they'll have to soon.

Bote is the only other player that has played there, for all of one inning. I think he's probably more athletic if something were to happen (although if something were to happen, you'd see Russell or Short on the roster almost immediately). I do wonder if this makes it more likely that they go after a middle infielder, which would be bad only in that it probably lessens the chance they go after Castellanos. But this could just be like a punishment type thing, this crappy organization giving a terrible person his 19th chance. Who knows.

I posted this in a game thread, but there's only one week without an off day until September. Russell is going to hang out in Iowa in case god forbid there's an injury, but thanks to the schedule Javy could probably ironman it until 9/1. If that's too aggressive, Bote or Robel could handle SS for the game or two necessary.
