While this is mostly meaningless (good pitcher is good and it was done vs those teams with largely different rosters than current day rosters) it’s still kinda cool to see.

What is Kimbrel even looking for/expecting?

He just turned 31. His last deal was 4/42 (ended up becoming 5/55 due to team option).

Going into 2019, there aren't a lot of great comps for Kimbrel, with the closest guys being older and not quite as good: Miller (2/25), Ottavino (3/27), Robertson (2/23). Britton (3/39) is the same age, but not as good. Indicates that the market still values youth.

Going into 2018, there were a lot of FA RP signings with a wide range of results across the contract size spectrum: Wade, Shaw, Gregerson, Neshek, Reed, Cishek come to mind. Wade's (3/52) profile is most similar to Kimbrel's from that group but not perfect -- a little younger at the time of signing, but just not as good.

Going into 2017, there was of course Jansen (5/80) and Chapman (5/86), both of whom aren't great comps, either: they were better than Kimbrel and 2 years younger at the time of signing.

With that, we're left with Wade's 3/52, Britton's 3/39 and the 5/80s of Jansen/Chapman. I can't imagine a 31 year old RP is going to get 4-5 years in this environment, even though Kimbrel was apparently looking for that. He's also going to sit out half the season, which isn't insignificant from his standpoint: even if he'd signed Britton's deal, he's out $6.5m. Without knowing the best deal he turned down, does 3/42 do it? Does he even get that offer from anyone at this point?

Update: yes;yes. :hello:

As a person who routinely doesn’t pay enough attention to what’s going on, I thought Kimbrel was coming off an injury and that’s why he hadn’t signed a deal until now. It never ever occurred to me that he could be fully healthy and not find a deal with anyone more than two months into the season.

It doesn’t speak highly of the labor compact in MLB if a top of the line player at his position can’t get a deal made until June because of the teams stonewalling him and the whole draft pick thing.

Got a hot dog from concessions right after BP for $6.50. Just got another before the top of the 6th for $8.00.

WTF is going on?!?!?

I think concessions are 20% off first hour Wrigley is open. But yes, i do imagine they want to recoop the Trump reelection money quickly. 2020 is quickly approaching

He wanted Chapman/Jansen money/years and they are arguably better than him and were much younger when they signed their deals.

he might just think it's a cool song and not care or even think about nugent's politics

that said, independently of that, there's still like a 99.99999% chance this white dude from alabama owns several MAGA hats.

If/when Morrow returns, we will be looking at a very sick bullpen:

Kimbrel

Morrow

Strop

Edwards

Monty

Some mix of Brach/Cishek/Kintzler/Chatwood

Pretty sure Morrow is dead. It is probably part of the reason we signed Kimbrel.

Have you ever known anyone to like Ted Nugent’s music?

Confession: The Blackhawks, if not currently at least through their Cup run, took the ice to this song, and I absolutely loved it back before I knew who Ted Nugent was.
