AND a “qualified” physician concludes player does not have “Non-Temporary” Injury.

Is that a normal thing in a team option? That doesn’t sound common.

Since our team doctor has a 3 star Yelp rating it makes sense for us to do this.

In a player option, I would think that exists for a lot of pitchers, but maybe it isn't standard?

I would imagine "qualified doctor" would be anyone agreed to by both sides at the time.

was just checking In to see people's thoughts on the Kimbrel signing, nice to see it devolved into some kind of anti-trump thread fairly quickly, I guess things are pretty much as terrible as ever... See you guys in a couple years when Trump is your president again...

Oh no, but I've missed you!

Going back to back is usually the last step. I'd imagine he will join the team during the Braves series

I would like the velocity on the FB to tick up a little higher and the the command of his pitches to improve before calling him up. Also, curious to see how he does after pitching two days in a row.

There's no rush and I think the Cubs will take their time with him. We don't want a Greg Holland-type situation happening...

Counterpoint: There is a rush.

He shouldn’t be rushed in theory, but if they aren’t going to try things out with Barnette, Maples, Mekkes, etc in the meantime and keep the status quo with the Brach’s of the world then yes he should be rushed

More 93-94 from Kimbrel tonight. I would describe that as mildly concerning at this stage.

Agree, but minor league guns (which in 2019 how are they not calibrated). Let’s just assume he was 97-99.

Sure, blame the gun. It's probably bullshlt, but human nature to want to feel better.

“pessimism is more rational than optimism” combined with single outing (AAA) velocity hand-wringing is a really unflattering look.

What is your specific concern? That he’s hurt? The velo never coming back? That he’s not going to be classic Kimbrel right away? Only the last of those seem remotely reasonable to me, but that should have been the expectation from day 1 given he signed in June. Which to come back full circle, means that we don’t need to dissect every 2nd hand report of what Iowa’s radar gun is saying when it’s within a few mph of his normal.

I just think it's silly to blame the gun, a classic fan rationalization. Was the gun off on his first appearance too, on the road? Pedro Strop must have a squad of slow guns following him everywhere he goes.

As I said - mildly concerning. Not a huge deal at this point that Kimbrel's velocity is down - there are valid reasons why it might be. But blaming the gun is something the likes of Brett Taylor would do.
