Is anybody else in that limbo where they want this to happen, while still being pretty sure it would end up being a disaster?

It all comes down to the contract for me if we commit multiple years I won’t like it

The only way I like it is if it's for multiple years. Given how likely it Kimbrel is a bust this season, a 1-year deal would be utterly stupid.

Guy averaged 97 on the heater last year. He struggled in the 2nd half but there was no indication he just got old and bad.

Let me reiterate, I don’t want a Melancon/Jansen type deal. I’d be fine with a 1 year guaranteed then player options for 1-2 years for him to stay if he wants or like a 3/45 type deal with an opt out.

Why would a deal with player opt outs be better for the club?

I love that even when we have owners who don't want to spend we are still signing a big free agent every year. And that's not meant to be sarcastic.

This has a good chance to blow up like Heyward and Darvish, but I'd rather them just spend money than prospects on trying to find a closer.

Now that this is happening, I'll say that there's things to worry about with Kimbrel, from the long layoff, to being almost 32, to any reliever being a roll of the dice to a certain degree. However, for a very, very long time Kimbrel has been insanely good, so there's plenty of reason to be excited about a player of his quality stepping into the biggest void on the team.

Man, they're only doing this because Zobrist is likely gone. horsefeathers them for doing something they should have done BEFORE THE SEASON STARTED.

Not that it amounts to a hill of beans, but the guy just turned 31 like a week ago.

True, but aren't you surprised they aren't just pocketing the savings?

lol, I read the 8 in his age on Fangraphs as months since it was right after years. Point still applies, but slightly better!
