Not Earth shattering but I like it. He's been decent for a few years now. It's a relatively small contract. Sure.

Brach's success seems very closely tied to his velocity, and his velocity came back after a dip to start the year so I think he's as good a middle reliever bet as anyone. Morrow/Edwards/Strop/Cishek/Montgomery/Brach is very good depth, and a roll of the dice on health at the top end.

This is exactly like the Kintzler trade. He's fine, this helps, but it's a real "way to aim for the middle" kind of move.

 

I'm also annoyed that it looks like we're tied to him next year if he sucks. Glad the FO learned nothing from Duensing and Kintzler. The whole horsefeathering point of playing in this end of the reliever pool is to not tie up money going forward. If you can't do that with Brach you just keep going down the list until you find someone who's down for a 1 year deal.
